Anyone not going to Moody Hill, I could use some help ...

Got the tcase out today, need to get the tranny out and everything back in tomorrow ... could use some extra hands and/or a transmission jack if anyone has one.

If you're available about noon, come on over!

Thanks!

I'll be over to lend a hand.

I can bring my floor jack over if that'll help as a tranny jack (yeah, I know they are different, just thought I'd offer what I have).

We have 2 floor jacks, a semi functional tranny jack, and tons of jackstands if we end up having to do it manually ...

Thanks Doug!

Bummer Don! Think it broke at Moab or OCG and you just now saw it?

I was sorta dissapointed in the tranny jack that you had. it should at least lower enough to be useful...

Wow, you and I are having fun with that right front! I picked up my new struts from Toytec Friday and am looking for a good pair of compressors (again...) I can still drive, so let me know if you need a hand. I was going to try to work on mine Tuesday, but that might be s stretch without any help.

Sorry Troy, just saw your post, and was busy today with mom and shipping Katherine off to Ohio (again...) If you're still on blocks Tuesday I can try to lend a hand during the day.

Troy, thanks for the use or your toys, sorry I had to bail..

I'd be interested in hearing how you get that pilot bearing out.

Nope, there was no doubt when it broke! Made a Hell of a racket. I was just driving down what was essentially a bumpy dirt road. Luckily it bound up the way it did, or I'd have had to fix it where it was.

Waiting to hear from All-Pro.

So where does that leave you Troy? I'm tied up tonight, but should have some time the rest of the week in the evening if you need an extra set of hands.

I would have to think that All Pro would replace the CO with no questions asked. Hopefully that's what you get.

...And your tensioner pulley now turns properly again . Weirdest thing I've seen in a while, surprised it didn't just eat the belt. Must be an awfully durable belt to survive that abuse.

UPDATE: Got the pilot bearing out via die grinder, the clutch put back in, and the tranny clearanced for the V6 adapter plate. Hopefully, the remaining parts come in tomorrow, and then can finally get it all put back together Wednesday...

Uh ...no - the grease just came through between the balls, was generating enough force to get around the seal!

BTW - for those who CAN use the grease trick, in my quest to find a puller worth a damn, I saw someone makes a little angled fitting with a zerk so you can pump the grease in from your greasegun instead of packing it by hand.

I've never had the grease trick work, ever. I've found puller's that worked, but all I ever got for the grease trick was a big mess.

It worked awesome for me. A big mess, yes....but the pilot bearing was out in 2 minutes....and when it came out, it exploded out! The damn thing shot across Matt's garage. Not sure why it doesn't work for you...

grease trick has always worked for me. you have to be sure you are hitting the grease with a well enough sealing object for the inner diameter of the bearing and also hard enough to shock load the bearing from behind even if the seals are going.

I had a good fitting object, and hit it hard enough to hit the backplate. Grease always comes through the balls. I guess its just the way it fits in the truck. We must just have a tighter clearance than most. It appears troy does as well.

I hit mine with the alignment tool, and I packed grease 5 or 6 times before it stopped hitting the backplate, and had a spring effect to it. I think mine might have started seeping out too, but I just kept packing grease in there until the alignment tool only went in about 3/4 of the way when I hit it. Is it possible you just weren't using enough grease?

Not to cut in for Don (he said he was leaving town), but he purchased a complete replacement, and they are going to send him a replacement shock assembly to put the coil onto and have that as his back up after what happened. And yes we knew exactly when it happened, very obvious. I would assume there was previous damage/stress from maybe moab, because everyone knows that yankee is not very harsh. When Don talked to all-pro (again sorry to speak for him), the rep said he's never heard of this, and wouldn't have believed him if not for that pic. I felt pretty shitty because he was up there cause of me, but he said he's glad we were on a trail like that and not something harsh where the front would have to flex and pop out of the spring perch, so....sorry Don!

How to tell a project isn't going well:

Yes, that's the INSIDE of my old transmission. Splitting the case was the only way I could figure to get the coupler off. I thought I had it licked when I knocked the coupler off the old tcase in about 5 mins. One problem:

The one on the old tcase was about half as long as the one on the old tranny.

But give it enough heat and it comes off! Enough to turn the coupler kinda blue

So what happened that you had to take the trans out in the first place was it left overs from when you were in Hungary?
