Angry Major Engine work happening

well i went to rampart today and then we went into Woodland Park for some dinner and i noticed something leaking, it was oil. so i tried to limp the truck home by adding another quart of oil every 10-15 min. this was working great until i got close to home and decided i could push it and just get there already. yeah, not so much. my truck threw a rod 4.5 miles from the house. so now i get to pull the engine, replace the rods, and find then fix the leak.

so if anyone wants to learn how to rip apart an engine and then rebuild it, come on over to the south HOW, i'm sure i'll be working on it for a while.
if you need directions PM me, most of you already know how to get here

If it threw a rod you are probably going to need a different engine. Usually lots of galled cam lobes/lifters, scored cylinders etc even if the block is not broken.

I'm out of town for most of the week. Will check with you Th or Fr.

Ugh, good luck with that one man. Hopefully it's not too bad and you can salvage the block with some minor machine work.

Talking

ok so check this out, i have got to be one of the luckiest people in the world. the knocking i heard was a rod. it didn't break though, it just bent and got a stress crack in it, and the piston got a descent chunk taken out of it. so i went back to advanced where i bought the pistons, they're aren't under warrenty. but because i've got friends in high places i'm getting a COMPLETE set for FREE. all i need is to replace the conecting rod. and as far as any damage caused to the block from this mishap, NOT ONE SCRATCH. the only thing that sucks is i have to wait a 1 1/2 weeks for the new pistons, but they're free so i really don't care.

every last dame bolt on the entire engine was only hand tight so in a way i'm even luckier that i didtn't have a worse problem. oh yeah, and the oil filter was barely snug. on the plus side, the drain plug was still tight.

I would at the minimum use antiseize to make sure you get the right torque reading.

We had a guy in our VW club here in the Springs that disregarded the loctite on his flywheel bolts... good stuff.... for the rest of the club LOL

Good luck on your rebuild, and sounds like you dodged a nice bullet
