CALLING ALL TECHS v6 ?'s

ok so hears the deal, i'm beyond fed up with my '01 3.4l engine and i've decided to just replace it. which toyota v6 is basically the best.

2 things to keep in mind.
-cost isn't an issue (or atleast won't be)
-i'm VERY hard on vehicles


i've been considering swapping in a 4.0l, i guess i'm mainly looking for the pros and cons of the various yota engines

2001 ext cab taco
custom front bumper w/ reciever, double tube rear bumper, nerf bars turned into sliders, double tube roll bar, american racing wheels (prototypes), 285/75r Pro comp X-Terrains, 3" body lift, custom 5" rear lift, custom skids

to do: front spacers for this summer, collect parts for SAS

Best bet would be another 3.4. The only other "good" v6 would be the 4.0, but then you are looking at a ton of obsticales.

A guy at work here was able to fit a 2UZ v8 in a 96 taco. Your stuck with an auto though.

I'm in the process of trying a 2UZ into a FJ80.

i have seen some people do a small lexus v8 swap in... takes up about the same space as the 3.4 block and can bolt up to your current transmission. the 4.0 is a monster to try and fit into a pre 05 taco.

i want to say it was like a 1mtge or something like that for the engine code...

The 1uz will not "bolt up" and is about 6" longer then a 5vz. That being said it would be a good engine. The bellhousing from Australia will cost over 1.5k after import tax, you will also need a manual tranny ecu from them. There is a guy in PNW who is selling flywheels for them but no bellhousing. If you like auto trannies you could modify a a340f to bolt to that engine. The SC engine has the best oil pan for that but major modification is required. I've only seen this swap in 2wd Tacomas.

The 4.0 is a tall bastard and would fit because you have a 3" body lift.

The 2uz oil pan doesn't require any modifications

My question is, what has you so fed up with the 3.4? If that is to much work are you really ready to get into the mess they call an engine swap?

my bad on the boltup... but hey it can work with the stock tranny

and he did say money wasn't really an issue lol...

for the money, sounds like you could upgrade the whole rig rather than invest in a single (albeit complex) component.

My brother in law installed twin turbos and made all the brackets, exhaust, and intercooler stuff for one of those supras. Said it would probably be around 1000 horse when finished (don't know if he was pulling my leg or not I'm not, but I don't think so??). Did it for some too rich street racer up in KC. So I guess that engine could be a cool swap.lol

Is IFS something you can get penicillin for???

Thats actually the 2jzgte in the quick and the curious, but both are really good motors.

If going away from the 3.4 i would go with a diesel swap though.

not cheap, i know the engine alone from a dealer will likely be 5k

And I'm only guessing here, but even then you would not get much of a warranty - 12 months or 12000 miles, maybe. I suspect that even at a dealership you are not going to be much more of a warranty than you would getting a short or long block and doing it yourself.

A friend of mine just had an engine replaced in his VW. $2500 for the engine, $3500 for labor. He got a whopping 10K warranty on the engine, and 1 year on labor only.

we just had one done in our excursion, it was only $2500.00 more to get it done at ford and parts AND LABOR are covered fro 6yrs/60k mi.

going through a dealer i was going to use our connections at Burt to help me out with cost and everything

the 7m is a great motor........have one in the supra and in the supertruck.........was not that bad of a swap.........but i would go with the 3.4 as it is a lot more reliable............

Built not bought!!!
