repair shops

I got a friend with a 1st gen Runner, looking for a good shop to do engine work and general maintenance. I believe someone on here told me about a shop in Longmont that they liked. But I couldn't find it just now when searching. My friend lives in Gunbarrel (Boulderish) and I just wanted to give him some options. Any help is appreciated.

Well, there's several - no need to go to an offroad specific shop it sounds like.

The cheapest is the House of Wrenching.

Otherwise, there's Tim's and AllPhase in Longmont.

Yeah I figure he doesn't need an offroad specific shop. I am trying to figure out what exactly he needs done. I told him I could help him work on it, but haven't heard back from him yet. I saw Tim's in the phone book, so thought that looked good. I just remember someone told me a couple shops they liked.

Thanks TC.

There's a Toyota specialist in Longmont called The Toy Shop, on the west side of 287...don't remember exactly where...somewhere across the highway from Albertsons.
In Boulder, Pellman's Automotive is the best shop IMHO. Very, very cool people, and very very good service. They started out as all import, so they have excellent Toyota skills.

...matter of fact, there's a big old LandCruiser parked in front of their shop on the website photo, loL!

Yeah, we could save him some diagnostic $$$, and recruit a new member while we're at it!

This is what my friend said when I asked what work he needed.

Quote:
The work I'm looking into is preventative maintenance, make sure she'll survive a trip to San Diego and back. Gotta check on the clutch, timing chain, and anything else that could potentially be a problem for a long trip.

I have no idea how much it would cost or how much time it would take, but ideally I 'd like to have the engine rebuilt someday.

I'm definitely interested in the checking out the HOW guys you know to see if they can give me some pointers on what needs to be done. Let me know the details and I'll bring er up there. Would you be interested in cruising up there too?

Have you taken your truck in the woods yet?

Thanks for all of your help bro...

HOW = House of Wrenching

Sounds like maybe all he needs is a tuneup and maybe fluid changes - we can help him do that EASY.

For $50 Independent will check the entire vehicle and make solid recommendations about what needs to be done and in what order, and when.

I've taken my truck to Baseline Auto in Boulder and they've always done a good job. If you decide to go there ask for Wade, he really knows his stuff.

Anyone got any beta on any shops in Grand Junction. My friend is looking for a reputable shop to take her 04 Taco to. She said, she just wants them to check out some funny noises she is hearing. Said the dealer wants $90/hr. to take a look. Truck has 55k and hears squeeling under the hood. She is guessing just a belt, but wants to know what is going on.

I had that same problem in terms of the squealing, turned out to be the drive belt. Beings I had just bought the truck I took it back to the dealer and they replaced the belt for free. New belt, squeal's gone... its all good in the neighborhood.
