Tire recomendation and/or advice

OK, so I ordered the 315/75-16 BFG KM2's about 4 weeks ago with an expected 5 weeks to delivery. I just got a call today saying they are now on further backorder until the end of March. Guess they are damn popular. Well my current tires aren't going to last til the end of March, so I got to do something soon.

I am trying to weigh in all my options here.

1. Go with a different tire. Probably the easiest move.
2. Go with some partially used tires for a few months and wait.
3. Go up a wheel size to a 17 and get the same tires in the 35x12.50's which are not on back order.
4. Other options, which I have no knowledge on at this time.

Right now I have looked for used tires and found a few. I have also checked out some steel 17's which would work. Although I don't know what issues I will encounter if I upgrade to a 17.

So with that being said, what's the collective think? And if you know of any issues with running 17's please tell. Also what is the exact set up I would need to run 17's.

You's guys help is always appreciated.

There are always tires for sale on colorado4x4 ... If I used a more popular size, I think I would just run used tires forever!

Gonna take a ton of lift to clear 315's on a Taco without rubbing ...

I am sure they will rub at first. But then I will do more mods to make them fit. I got 6" total now. I will check out that site for some used tires.

I wanted to say I am running Goodyear Wrangler MTR 285/75-16's now with no problem.

Black quad cab TRD, moded inside and out, locked up on 35's, capable of getting there and back.

trxus mt's hands down.

i plan to order another set.

im not too sure what size you're running now, but you could probably do a 255/85/16 or a 35/12.5/16

the trxus mt's are far better in the snow then these damn bfg mt's, and from what jay(avsfreak) and i discussed a little, overall the trxus mt's are better then GY MTR's

I love the New Procomp but they dont make it in either size i want.

33x10.5 or 255x85x16.

My 33x10.5 BFGs are new so i love them!

I'd stick with 16's just to keep the cost down and your options open. I'm also a fan of skinnies... 255/85R16, basically 33x10.5

We ran Spring Creek with a guy who had the Xtreme MT's - they STICK to the rocks. Very impressive, but as mentioned above, sizes are limited for our trucks.

There's 2 315's BFG MT's on sale on co4x4.

But x3 for 255/85-16 Trxus MT's - that will be my next tire unless the Xtreme MT comes out in 33x10.50-15

Yeah I emailed with the guy with the two BFG MT's this morning. He has them posted on craigslist too.

The interco's look good, but looks like they only come in a 34 not a 35 for 16's, but that could be a good thing. The procomp's aint bad looking either. Decisions, decisions.

Not exactly true. Turns out my 315s don't rub too bad....those Chevy wheels are backspaced pretty well.. They rubbed on the inner fender bolts very slightly, but if I got bolts with a smaller head, then they wouldn't. I was doing full lock turns with my 315s before I took them off. So that takes care of 315s on the street. A 2" body lift would more than take care of it for offroad. 3" suspension, and no BL, would be sufficient as well.

BTW, fondigley, I got my tires, wheels, and mounting for a total of $200 invested....

1980 Toyota Pickup: CB antenna, custom 2-tone paint, duct tape mod, weight reduction, 29" meats. sway bar and torque bar removed for MAD FLEX.

Yup. My old set was awesome even after they were bald, and the new ones are magical. Kinda heavy compared to some, and they can be hard to balance, but I say it's worth the tradeoff for everything else about them.

x4 for TrXus MT, for all around use. There are some great reviews of the tire on PBB for snow and even desert racing, plus general wheeling. I'm looking at a set for a winter tire next year.

Can you fit an SX? Would you even consider running a bias ply? Interco has other 34-36" skinny tires as well, some radial, some not.

Stay with 16s unless you have a very compelling reason to run 17s, like really huge tires or larger brake calipers.

you have 315's? I thought they were 33's ... 315's are like 35's, and NO WAY you fit them with no lift unless the backspacing puts the entire tire outside the body.

315 wide. 315mm = 12.5" I thought we were talking about width...

These tires are going to see plenty of road use. Since my truck is my daily driver, swampers aint really ideal. Still debating what to do. But thanks for all the ideas.

In general, 315 is short for a 315/75 or a 315/70. I've never seen a 315 in less than 70. So, 315 almost always means a 35" tire.

Oh...alrighty....hadn't heard it referred to that way before... BUT, a 315/70R15 is a 33x12.5x15 tire. So it only works for it to be a 35 if it's a 16" wheel...which would explain my confusion.

Where have you seen a 315 offered in a 15" rim? I have never seen that.

Usually 15's are measured in regular, understandable inch sizes ... like 33x12.50-15

16's seem to mostly be that metric crap

Thanks for all the advice. I talked with the guy at the shop and ended up ordering the Procomps. He said they were comparable to what I ordered and he had those in stock and they were a tad cheaper too. Can't wait to get them mounted next week.

Well there is definitley some rubbing on real tight turns (UCA's), but other than that, not at all. I am sure it will rub when flexed out though. I will have to get in there and see when it warms up a little and with some day light.

Overall I think I gained about an inch of clearance all around. The bottom of the rear bumper is now a hair shy of 3 feet off the ground. Bottom of front bumper is now at 29 inches from the ground and the rear pumpkin is now 12" off the ground. I am happy with that. Now I just need to solve the rubbing issues and it is on.
