Not a good deal IMO. Not knowing the reason it is a builder is scary. Piston sets run $400 not including the engine gaskets, rings, bearings, and machine work. That can outcost a 3.4l donor with all the parts you need really quick.
Yeah, but if you look on ebay, you can get complete rebuild kits with new pistons, gaskets, and bearings for like 300 bucks. But yes, it all depends on what is wrong with the motor. You may even be able to talk him down though. Not too bad of a deal though
$339 is not too bad, though that doesn't include machine work ($3-400 not including head work). Also that engine doesn't have any of the required accesories like wiring harness, ecu, and sensors. I'm not saying don't buy it, it is just far from a good deal for somone planning a swap. If you can pay cash many 3.4l in junk yards can be had for $800 with 100k milage. Most Junk yards will include all parts needed for the swap at that price.
not great when that motor goes for $500 all day everyday in running order
