Has anyone put a rear locker on a TRD Sport 4x4 Long Bed. I have read a lot that the Long Bed is NOT available with the TRD Off Road package. Then what do I see the other day but an Impulse Red TRD Off Road Long Bed Double Cab 4x4. I wish I could have stopped and asked how he got it. What Gives? Has anyone put a power sunroof in a '05-'06 Taco Yet? If so any problems?
A locking differential? They already have them. You sound like you may be referring to a tail gate lock. For future reference, you should clarify a little better or no one is going to understand what you're asking.
No actually the TRD Sport Does not come with the rear locker, only the TRD OFF Road Package does on a short bed Double Cab. The TRD Sport comes with the LSD.Tailgate Lock? No even close to the ? I was asking!

well, on the 05-06s there's a TRD sport package (hood scoop, color matching stuff) which i *think* comes with an LSD. the TRD offroad package still has the e-locker.

TRD Sport has been offered on Tundras for a while now. It doesnt matter really, that you dont know. I really dont give 2 shits about TRD period, my truck came w/ TRD nothing package On anything w/ the TRD sticker just look for the rear diff drain plug to be on the d-side, the electric motor on the third, and the button on the dash and you'll know its got the selectable locker. As obviously the TRD Sport LSD equipped vehicles wont have any of the above.
I like it a lot so far, just had it installed about 3 weeks ago. It ran me about $1350 installed with the compressor.
$800 for the locker, $200ish for the compressor, and $350 for the install.
I ordered it and had it installed at Diversified Creations here in Michigan.
I just got a dbl cab long bed (sport pkg) after trying for six months to find a way with the help of some members here to get the locker instead of the LSD - So I have the LSD but I am confused as to which type of LSD it is. mechanical or a brake assist type. Will an indicator light come on there is an auto LSD place on the panel for it to light up, but contrary to the manual I dont have the "auto LSD" button. I have seen this topic before and no reall answers except from a toyota press release. so any comments would be appreciated.
And I hit it pretty hard in a recent blizzrd here in new york and couldnt tell whether it ever engaged. Also in 2 wheel in some very slick stuff. Actually its really hard to spin it out of control except in deep 1 foot plus snow.
also anyone here on Long Island familiar with a shop or can do some modification work? just PM me or post thx.

The rear diff drain plug is on the passenger side of my '05 TRD Off-Road and yes I've got everything else you've mentioned. Didn't they use the 8" diff. out of the 4Runner on the '05-Pres Tacoma's?

If you have the brake assist type I believe the light in the dash will go on, indicating that it's doing it's thing. With the regular LSD, nothing lights up. I think the button is only if you have the "brake assist" LSD... let's you turn it on and off.
Thats correct. The Auto LSD is only available on the SR5 package with Stability and Traction Control. Basically, all the AUTO LSD is, is traction control without the engine stall mechanism. I know that in the CAT region (VA, WV, MD, DE, PA) that you cannot get the AUTO LSD on the 06's. They are putting a mechanical LSD in everything that isnt the offroad package or the baby base truck.

sorry for bringing up the past, just going through all the old posts to learn more about the 06 dcab sr5 4x4 (nonTuRD) truck i just got. maybe i need to do a burnout...
I'm pretty sure comajoe was bumping an old thread and was referring to the comment on LSD in non-trd model tacoma 4x4's.
I don't believe it to be true in 05-08 models.
I believe the 09+ do indeed come with LSD (auto?) standard. (at least v-6 4x4 access/double)
These are not facts. Someone else will need to chime in.
yea i happened to have alittle free time on my hands today and crawled under the truck for a close look at things. the rear diff has a sticker with a barcode and a big C6 on it. beside that sticker is another one that sez " use LSD oil."
The 05-08 TRD Sport trucks all came with the mechanical LSD. I have one in my 07 TRD Sport.
The 09 TRD Sport trucks DO NOT have the mechanical LSD.
Only some 05-08 trucks have the AUTO LSD (also with VSC/TRAC and all that other electronic stuff). This was an option and apparently only available in certain areas.
You will not see an AUTO LSD and a mechanical LSD in the same vehicle from the factory.
Some of the 05-08 non TRD trucks can have the mechanical LSD from the factory (again, an option)
Auto LSD is computer controlled. Not an actual mechanical unit. It's a spin off of VSC/TRAC for more aggressive response if the driver activates it. Uses wheel braking and throttle control.
The last mechanical LSDs were in the 08s. Spelled out for window lickers since nobody gets it yet, if it's an 09 and not a TRD Offroad it has an open diff.
Reviving this thread again to ask more questionsssss.
If you buy an ARB rear air locker for a TRD Sport that has the mechanical limited slip, do you keep the limited slip or does the locker replace it? I only ask because I have an 05 TRD Offroad and my truck is either locked or open diff in the rear and I sort of hate open diffs.
Also my truck is getting a little higher in miles and I want to trade but I cannot find a TRD Offroad with a manual, which is what I have now, but I'm finding plenty of TRD Sports with manuals. If you can throw an ARB locker on a TRD Sport and keep the limited slip then that'd be a better setup for me, but if it's just open diff or locked then I might as well just keep searching for a TRD Offroad.
I should point out that since 09, there are no mechanical limited slips on Tacomas. It's all ECU and brakes. So you can get a locker and still have your 'limited slip' because it's not actually the differential doing it, but a traction control system.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
