Toyota probably doesn't want this expensive warranty issue to continue.
they switched the source of the bad units, thus they must have also
changed there paint recipe , as my 14,000 mile, 2006 shows no paint chipping
which many 05's complained about.

probly added more clear. I think all vehicles should have factory option for number of coats of clear you want. Then if you live in shitty area you can pay an xtra grand or so and get 5 or 6 coats applied and have very strong finish and then when you do scratch your truck good chance it didnt make it past all coats of clear so you can just polish the marks out.

BS. you need to bitch more. Demand to speak with the DSM. Make copies of the threads on how these diffs have been replaced for other members here and show them to the DSM. Contact Sara at AllPro and get copies of her winning arbitration docs and show him/her those as well.

the dealer won't let me talk to the dspm inspector directly. They also said that they can't look at a message board and say to do it. They need invoices or something else to prove it.

bull shit! Demand to speak to the DSM (district service manager). The dealer has no business or right telling you that.

contact Sara and get the arbitration docs and make that asswipe eat them.

wow, and I believe you have the 8.4 rearend with 3.15 gears, not the 3.73 e-locker 8" that has been the problem child. very interesting.
I wonder if your diff came out of the same assembly plant around the same time as the other failed units, pointing to a setup problem.

keep us up on what Toyota says/does about this one.

The production was 12/04 so it could be. There is another guy on CT with an 06 that broke at 8,000 miles and an 07 with 2,000 miles.

2006 TRD SPORT (lsd)
19,000 miles
Stock Tires
No off-roading or submerging.

Rear-end started whining under load and much worse at 50-60 mph or faster. Hasn't seized up yet, but it started about 5k miles ago and has gotten very bad these last few miles. Took it to the dealer and they are replacing the whole differential unit. I asked why it was bad and all they told me was "thats where the noise is coming from".

I am getting it replaced under warranty Wednesday and will bug them to tell me what went wrong with it.
