Those with Autos - 1st gear discussion

I've seen it on a few forums about owners stating they think 1st gear is too low in the Autos, as in it shifts too fast to be of any good. If there are any of you who felt that way, how did you feel after you wheeled and needed to throw it down into L(4LO) for long downhill decents?

I personally love how low it is now after wheeling yesterday at Paragon.

I like the low ratio of 1st gear for long, steep decents. I really hate the delay between 2nd and 1st when downshifting on a slope. It sort of freewheels for a couple of seconds before it goes into 1st. If you're not ready for it, it sort of gives you a little adrenaline shot while your eyes bug out and experience temporary loss of sphincter control.

Just because it's an easy shot doesn't mean you shouldn't take it.

I noticed the same thing. Plus when it finally does go into 1st it almost feels like you hit a brick wall.

Yep, because at that point, I'm all over the brakes and the motor is idled down.

Do you have a dual transfer cases? I'd bet it would be real low then.

You too now?

I just saw a picture of your truck posted by another member on another site, and I must say....you really made that regular cab into a offroading machine.

Two thumbs up!

I'm not about to hack mine up like that until it's paid off. When it is, I'm hunting you and AwsumDC down!

I've had trucks that did not have a low enough 1st gear... sucked. Low 1st gear in a truck is a must IMO.
