Removing carbon filter above air filter

After reading lots of pages about this on yotanation, i decided to yank that carbon filter out. its held in place with a couple plastic do-dads.
did notice a slight mpg increase, and it wont hurt the motor. very very slight intake roar after 3500rpm, but not noticeable at all.

this is a pic of the v6 one, not my pic.

go niners

This is exactly why most aftermarket air intakes are not CARB legal in CA. I see you're in CA too. I would not get caught with out that and if they notice its not there at smog inspection for some reason you will not pass. The carbon filter is there to stop fuel gases from flowing out of the intake and into the atmosphere.

Gadget has alot of info on this. For one, It does not make a difference in power or MPG with it removed. Second, IT WILL not pass a smog inspection if it is removed.

GMAK is right, the carbon is only capable of holding so much before it becomes saturated.
