my spring break plans

so im turning 18 over spring break and my most prefered party is a wheeling trip. so im going for around 4-5 days (saturday, dawn till wedsday or thursday morn) at day break a friend and i are leaving the North Plains area and heading out to brownscamp, hitting up some firebreak 5 and moving on to sand lake, doing a couple loops there and trying to get down to florence before sundown. camping there. (anybody know of some camping sites farther away from the crowds?) wake up there and do some exploring for a good chunk of the day then heading over to bend where a friend of mine has a house. hopefully staying there for around 2 days doing some wheeling in that area.(good spots? and how to get there?) then when we feel like leaving we are heading up to the maupin area/tygh valley, where my friends family owns a ranch. there is some good wheelin on the ranch. then dropping him off there with his family and i have to head back to hillsboro for lacrosse practice on thursday. i will take lots of pics and have a write up when i get back.

Sounds like fun, lookin forward to seein some pics.
Im not sure what way your going to Maupin, but if you go through Sandy you might wanna swing by Wildcat and cruize around. Its nothin too special but if your passin by it may be worth your time to check it out. Its mostly logging roads but theres a few hill/rock climbs that are kinda fun.

If you are looking for a nice quiet camp area down by Winchester Bay there is William Tugman State Park. Nice lake for fishing as no motors beyond trolling are allowed. Grab a yurt for a new camping experience.

my road trip

so we started a little late but got up to browns around 9. and the adventure starts. i wanted to see how far up fire break 5 i could get.

this is the truck clean.

firebreak 5 is just challenging enough and really a blast.

i got to the point where all the other tracks stoped and was going to winch up the little hill. but i couldnt find my winch remote. so i had to back out. i still havent found the remote. so we got off the trail and put tillamook into the gps and it led us to this.

.
the gps was tryng to get us to tillamook on gravel roads. we stopped at this logging area where the other tracks stopped. for those of you that know the area it was right near 7-up.
so we finally got back to the hyw and got out to sand lake. bounced around a bit till things started wiggleing lose.

from there we were off to florence. we got a camping spot and camped out that night. then when we got up it was off to the dunes. we aired down to around 18 psi and headed out, as soon as i saw this peak i knew we had to get up there.

the florence dunes are huge and so not as crowded. i even found some toyota guys from UO.

the truck does very well in the sand. here is a link to the vids put together.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FeARsVAPro

we left with no problems. packed up and headed to sun river. it was a gorgeous drive. then i saw a sign for an ohv area and decided to check it out.

we followed the road for about 14 miles but due to snow and downed trees i couldnt get any farther.
we headed back and took a pic in this cool bridge.

we continued over the pass near waldo lake. and found some smow.

we finally got into sunriver and spent the night at a friends house. the next day proved interesting. we ventured out to find some back roads. and had some fun with them.
i didnt make it up the little rocky out cropping. a locker will fix that. it wasnt starting well so we backed out and headed out the road. but shortly after the truck died and smoke came threw the vents. i found that the battery had shifted and the winches power cables were meltingmy battery mount and the ground for the engine had burned up.

some duck tape, electrical tape and some rockstars fixed the problem and we drove away.
on the way back to the house i rolled over 100k. so i had to get out and flex for some pics.

then some friends came and we went back to the road as it was getting dark to show them where we went and i tried again at the little rocky out cropping. i got farther this time but bounced far enough to get the bumper wedged on a stump. so we got the pulaski out and started hacking. i was making progress when the pullaski handle snapped b/c i was torqing on it and i weakened the handle by the mounting hole. so we had to try one last time. luckly i got it out. and we cursed that road and went home. from this point we stayed another night at sun river then headed out to tygh valley where my friends family has a big ranch. i dont have any pics yet b/c he has the camera. the whole drive was so nice and i loved it. i want to do it again some day. i couldnt have asked for a better spring break.
