Shakedown TM

Everything went well except not being able to get used to the new width. I guess that just means more wheeling! The weather was awsome....

Yep. We were getting ready to tackle the falls on Annihilator, but we had a small leaf spring issue. Maybe next time.

Thanks! The jury is still out on the full width thing though. I was getting hung up on all kinds of stuff. The falls at Annaconda were usually a pretty easy affair with the exception of the very top. Well I got all kinds of hung up at the bottom and just crawled the top??? So, I guess I have to relearn. I can remember watching guys wheel with full width and thinking "That was a strange line to take", but now I think I understand. Really though, it was a very successful day. I lost one bump stop and have a moderate inner axle seal leak. Nothing that will keep me off the rocks.

Thanks. I am hoping you guys are right about the full width cause I was fighting that bitch all day. Things I used to walk right up were a struggle. I ended up having to take a completely different line.

Well, I have a set of 4 wheels and tires with 3.75 BS, and another set that is 4.75. I used the 3.75 on the rear, and the 4.75 on the front. The idea was to make the outside width of the two axle the same, and it worked, but I kept smashing the hubs on the rocks. So, it looks like I have to put the other two 3.75 back on the front and add a spacer to the rear. I can't stand not have the axles the same. It kind of throws me off when I wheel also. I have pics on my webshots page of the axle build...

??? WUT ???

No mfg makes the front and rear widths the same. They are pretty much always 1"-2" different. Having the rear narrower makes the truck turn and track a lot better. If you were running the full width front with the stock Taco rear I could see the dilema, but what you have shouldn't be all that noticable or make a difference. Did you take 2 different spares too?

At least he didn't use a wheel spacer on just one side to push the pumpkin to the right location!

Yep, you might have noticed two spares in the bed. It really is just a mental thing I guess. I hate not being the same width. Also, when I bought the second set of tires whith the funky BS I really didn't care since I was getting a smoking deal on them. Anyway, they won't work so it looks like I am going to have to deal with it. I am going to need to track down one black steelie for the spare though. I will just have the others dismounted. I might be able to take them to one of the tire stands and trade for the right size wheel.

I couldn't imagine carrying 2 spares as my bed space is already severely limited, so no I didn't notice. It won't be long and you'll probably have some new dents or scratches to think about and that inch or two will be a distant memory.

Run the same backspacing front and rear and let the rear track. Slightly narrower in the back will be good, which in your case should be about 2 1/4", so 1 1/8" per side.
