Here is what I spent my last week workng on

I had a member from Mississippi come up so that I could build him a set of tube doors and set of bumpers as well as a two piece skid plate. We were also going to try and figure out my truck while working on the fab work.

Needless to say my truck got little attention and we ran out of time before finishing both bumpers. We did manage to finish the tube doors, front bumper and get him a good start on the skid plates. The tube doors turned out nice, especially after the powder coat was applied. But they cost us a full day as adjustments for them became a real pain.

If we would have been able to get the doors to mount up immediately, we would have remained on schedule to get the rear bumpr on, BearAttack possibly running and make the Badlands on Saturday. But as it turned out, one day missed of fab work put us behind almost two days.

A little background on the front bumper. Andrew is planning on incorporating a removable hitch plate styled winch. So we had to design the front bumper to withstand that type of abuse. I think the mounting frame will work nicely to keep the bumper attached to the truck and the receiver I designed should be strong enough to pull an elephant over. There are photos of the how we securd the receiver in the photos. But the basics of it was the receiver was welded both front and rear of the face plate of the bumper, then gussestted by two 3"X3"X1/4" pieces of angle iron completed welded to the top plate of the bumper. The D ring mounts were als welded to the bumper face plate as well as to the mounting frame.

Tube doors were powder coated by Indy powder coat and we used Toyota latches inside some custom boxes I built and welded to the doors. Jeep crasher actually bent the tubing for us for the tube doors, and I think he did a great job!

bear,

I know your truck has a leaky O2 bung, but can't remember exactly what the exhaust pipe is. anyhow, I've got this down pipe from a 2000 V6 auto(stolen CAT), if you have a use for it, it's yours.

you have been awesomely kind Tony! I really do appreciate everything, and to answer your question. I would definitely be interested!

We were able to change the spark plugs on the toy last week, and discovered a few interestoing tid bits. #1 the shop that initially drained the fuel cell of the water also changed the plugs and put plugs in that were about 10 mm (estimation) shorther than stock plugs and that two cylindars are running extremely rich. Those plugs look carbonized as if they had been in the motor much longer than the few start ups they actually have on them. So I am going to swap out the fuel pressure regulator in hopes that it is the major problem cause. then go back and fix up all the other crap that has built up around that issue.

Anyway. Cub#1 has a job in Carmel now, so I can pick up the down pipe sometime when I take her to work. Just let me know when a good time is for you.

I'm waiting for Andrew to take photos of the doors mounted on the truck. We had been putting his truck inside the garage at night when we were working on it since the doors were off. but toward the end of the week, he put the stock doors back on so we didn't have to keep moving things around to get the truck in. When the doors were finished at the powder coaters, it made no sense to put them back on just for photos. He has a thread going on the national board so hopefully he will post those photos there.

He decided on keeping the stock hinges on the doors and door jam and just cut the hinge pins out. in the long run it made mounting the doors a lot easier (but still a chore) to put on. I was surprised that neither the tube doors nor the stock doors rattled. But then again we did make sure and get new pins that were a tad larger and drilled out the existing holes to that new size. In all honesty, I have never felt tube doors so solid on a truck before. there was zero deflection.

I just need to get back to my tail gate project, figuring out my truck, building a fence and finish putting down the transition boards for my wood floors. Oh and find a real job! but as you can tell, I am not busy. LOL

Tony, thanks for dropping off the down pipe! I got it. Sorry I wasn't home when you dropped by. I had to run an errand regarding my son's car. If I can sneak away from my wife this weekend. I may try and get that mounted up as well as mess around some more with the fuel pressure regulator.
