I figure this qualifies for 4x4 Tech because it includes my T-Case...

Last 2 weeks or so I've noticed my shifts (Tranny and T-case) are warm to the touch. Not the rubber shift knobs, but the metal shifts them selves. 104,000 on the truck, I've only had it for 10,000. I was doing an oil change anyways so I figured I'd change the fluids in the tranny and t-case while I'm at it. Drained them, used Mobil 1 75w90 in both (factory spec).
Both shift better with the new fluids, noise from the T-case is less, but yesturday I could feel both shifts getting warm to the touch again, warmer than before the fluid change. The T-case shift is noticably warmer than the tranny shift.
Am I worrying over nothing here? Could this indicate a real problem?

The Mobil 1 that I put in is sythetic.. the shift boot and the plastic on the "half" floor console are warm to the touch also.. if its normal great, it just hasn't been warm enough for me to notice in the year I've had it. (Until now that is)
It's normal, if you ever get a bodylift it is even worse. It will get warm in the summer not because of the weather but if you have your windows down it will suck air up from the tranny.
MIne gets worm as well, sometimes very warm to the touch, but then again it is 115 degrees outside at those times. It is normal nothing to worry about.
For some reason when i change the oil in my tranny or T-case the first few days the shifters get really really hot, almost too hot to touch... Then after a few days they no longer get hot... i don't really understand why, but it's been that way for 10 years
Normal, but look at it this way. Custom hand warmers for those cold winter days. Throw on a hurst handle and its like a custom luxury shift warmer. And to think people pay 60k for cars with that option. Just kidding. If it doesn't melt the skin, its not hot.
After reading your post I've been feeling the shift levers every now and then. Both are always cool. I've got 10,000 miles on my '04. I've got stock tranny fluid.
Mine get pretty hot depending on the type of driving I'm doing. Slow stop-go driving in hot weather or rockcrawling really heats up the transmission. Regular around town or highway driving and the shifters are just warm.
