Possible 4x4 Swap

I have a 2004 4 cyl, 5 speed Tacoma std cab. It is not a 4runner. Can I swap to 4x4 as I have seen in other threads in this forum?
Your help is appreciated!

You stated it's a Regular cab Tacoma. Then you said it is not a 4Runner.
I'm confused. Do you mean "it is not a Prerunner"? How man lug nuts hold your wheel on? 5 or 6? If 5, the answer is no, you cannot do the 4x4 swap. If 6, then yes.

99 Single Cab 2.7. Finally SAS'd and sitting on full width Toyota axles.

Sorry for the confusion. It is not a Prerunner and it is a 5 lug wheel so it sounds as if I can't do the swap. I am assuming it must be a Prerunner in order to be able to make the conversion. Are the frames etc. different?
Thanks again!

The suspension set-up between the 5lug 2WD models and 4x4/Prerunners are completely different. If you want 4WD on your 5lug, the best option would be a full solid axle swap.

I can do the work. What would I need for a solid axle swap? And thanks for helping a "new to the Tacoma world"!

Lots of stuff. There is a SAS section here. You can do some reading in my SAS thread by clicking the link in my sig line.

Keep in mind that the front axle is only one part of the picture. You will also need a new transmission, transfer case, transmission crossmember, ECU/wiring harness (to avoid CEL), exhaust mods (depending on trans/transfer combo) and of course rear suspension mods. You would be embarking on a lengthy and expensive project.
