Alternator upgrade

Before I ask I did use the search and no good data so wondering if there are recommended alternator upgrades when running aftermarket lights, winch, etc. Read an article in fourwheeler about electrical upgrades and checking on what people have done to keep the battery(s) charged.

Anyone know if there is any kind of junkyard upgrade that'll work for our Tacomas without much modification? I'm thinking of something similar to the 3G alternator junkyard upgrades for some Broncos, like in this thread:

In other words, if a Tundra or Toyota minivan has a higher-rated stock alternator, can it be easily retrofitted to our Tacomas? Just wondering about any less expensive alternatives, assuming there are any.

They make an 80 amp alternator in addition to the 70 amp one that is most common.

Yeah, thanks for the info. I read about that in the other thread you posted. I was just wondering if there was a 130 amp alt like the 3G alt found in some Ford Taurus's, Econolines, Mustangs, etc. that would fit ours without much retrofitting. Those cost only about $20 from a junkyard and alot of Bronco drivers retrofit 'em in their trucks. I wouldn't be surprised if the GM and Jeep crowd figured out about some higher-rated junkyard alternators that bolt on to their rigs as well, so I was wondering if maybe Toyota (or maybe even some other brand?) offered something more, like maybe a 100-120 amp stock alternator that might work without having to mess with complicated bracket fabrication and wiring and such. Probably not, but wondering in case someone else might have discovered something.

He'll correct me if I'm wrong but.....I'm 99% sure he's got a modded one from Boyle Future like mine. After all, he's the one that gave me the contact info for Boyle.

If my memory serves me correctly there was a GM one that kinda fit with some spacers and rewiring and maybe the pulley. I believe it was from a suburban. Not the OE part, but aftermarket upgrade. A few years ago this is what I was told by someone who was selling some 200+ amp ones. Maybe Mr. Alternator ??? If some one else knows anything about this that would help cause I never went any deeper into it than that.

I have a welder with the stock 80 amp alt. Works just fine. 1/4 inch plate no problem.

2000 Taco. 33's, All-Pro suspension, body armor. M8000. On board welder, 1000 watt inverter.

I've seen reports that an AC Delco 160 amp alternator for a Chevy LS1 engine can be easily transplanted onto a 2RZ / 3RZ engine, with the only tweaking being in fitting / adapting the wire harness.

I would need a core from a junkyard as buying a new alternator from Toyota is way out there.
