Big Bear snow run - Jan 7th

There was a good amount of snowfall up in Big Bear this past weekend. I tried to drum up some interest on a last minute snow run, but that didn't come together.

More snow is forecast for later this week and again next weekend. If we get enough snow next week, I'm leaning toward hosting a run on Jan 7th. Anybody interested? Post up!

The typical snow run boiler plate info-
Quote:
4x4 and M+S (mud and snow) tires required

We recommend the following minimum equipment:
All Terrain tires
F/R recovery points
Recovery gear (winch, tow straps, shackles, shovel, etc)
Tire chains
We don't require chains on the trail, only to meet CHP requirements on highway as necessary.
Meet at the trailhead of 3N16 and Hwy 18 at 9am.
Trailhead for 3N16 is here:
N34 17.620 W116 48.810

Optional
7:30am Meeting at McDonalds at I-15 and Bear Valley here:
N34 28.280 W117 20.575

I'll be going up the back way through Lucerne if anybody wants to meet up at the McDonalds on our way to the trailhead.

Dress warm and pack a lunch.

May be interested for the 7th if I don't break anything this weekend out in Ocotillo Wells.

Its looking like Jan 7th will be our best date. Rain and snow is forecast for later this weekend in Big Bear. Still waiting to see if anything comes of the storm that was originally forecast for next week.

We'll mostly be on the main trails around Holcomb Valley area. 3N16, 3N12, 3N14, 2N71 and maybe 2N13 or 2N93 if there is good snow in those areas.

I'll have to check with the wife to make sure I didn't already commit to any plans for the weekend. Definitely still interested if I can pull it off.

Hi Tyler - I need some advice.

The good news is that I now have 4 inches more clearance and bigger tires (35s) compared to last year's run so I should be less of a snow plow and have better flotation. The bad news is that my tires are well worn ATs and may have difficulties clearing snow or getting traction. I wanted to try some used 35s on for size before committing to new ones.

I don't want to be "that guy" so please take a look at the attached pictures and let me know what you think. I had a great time last run so if you're game I'm game.

You should be fine. There isn't a crazy amount of snow pack at the moment. If it was deeper I would at least put you in the rear of the group. No worries on this trip.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this trip. I forgot I was supposed to help my wife's grandfather tomorrow. Plus I should be doing some maintenance on my rig, rather than beating the hell out of it every weekend for the last month.
