I urge you to oppose the Omnibus Land Management Act of 2008 S.3213.
The Omnibus Land Act of 2008 is bad for the environment, bad for the economy & bad for the public.
The bill would create about 100 new Wilderness Areas, Wilderness Study Areas & Conservation Areas, many without Public or local involvement or support. It would eliminate existing energy production leases, forcing more dependency on foreign energy sources & further increasing the cost of energy in the US. The proposed Wilderness areas do not even meet the intent of theWilderness Act as untouched by the hand of man.
In addition to creating over 1 million acres of new Wilderness, closing all trails to responsible motorized access and Mountain bike access, the bill will make permanent the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS). The motorized recreation community is concerned the NLCS would create an additional level of bureaucracy in the already muddled Travel Management Rule and remove much of the authority of the existing agencies in managing public lands.
We cannot afford to close any more lands to responsible motorized recreation or slow the land management process with more bureaucratic red-tape; therefore I ask that you vote ‘No’ on S. 3213
