floats, don't rust, has less recoil then steel (safety), easier to spool,
does not obtain burs or frayed wires that poke yer chit
consumable life is longer then steel

probably a bunch more

Explain the differences between Technora and Dyneema?

What is the Difference between Dyneema 12 strand and AmSteel Blue that is made from Dyneema 12 strand?

I have been searching and searching on the web to learn everything I can about synthetic as I am about to purchase a M8000 and separately order synthetic line and there are trying to understand what is what gets pretty confusing.

It would seem every line is either Dyneema, Technora or Spectra and from there trying to figure out what some of the companies do to the base rope from there is where it gets confusing, more so when you compare vendors such as Viking, Master Pull, and the tons of other vendors who sell ropes and just categorize them as Dyneema 12 strand such as an offroad vendor on eBay selling a variety of lenghts/sizes of Dyneema on eBay and what seems to be a way better price than everyone else.

Could Godzilla really use synthetic winch rope for dental floss or would it be ineffective?

That does help, thank you.

I would still like to know what the difference is between Dyneema 12 strand and AmSteel Blue which I am told is Dyneema 12 strand.

I do know one thing about all of the varieties of synthetic .....It is damn expensive. I would love to know what the mark up is on the stuff. When I told my wife I would have to spend between $250-500(Masterpull at the higher end) for a 100 foot rope with thimble and hook she thought I had lost my mind.

I have the 5/16 Masterpull Superline (Dyneema)

difference in the Superline over standard dyneema...
is that the Superline is heated and stretched
so that changes the molecular structure (density)
and so it's likely the comparison specs of standard dyneema rope
will be somewhat different.

just sayin'

To be honest thats the exact stuff I want to put on the M8000 I am purchasing but $410 bucks for 100feet of 5/16 with a tube thimble is a bit out of my budget. Nice stuff for sure though.

i put smittybilt rope on my m8k 3 years ago and it's still in good shape. it came with a 10' sliding sleeve on it to run around trees and stuff to protect it from abrassion. it was $200 with a hook attached.

http://www.smittybilt.com/docs/new_products/SB_22.pdf

the one i have is grey and doesn't look like synthetic line when it's spooled up on the winch which is a good theft deterent. loosing the steel line saved a significant amount of weight ahead of the front axle.

I dunno, some might argue that Kong was a gorilla and they are vegetarians so his teeth would be flat and dull, but then why was he eating all those people?? The real question is, does it come in mint?

Dell, heres one for you...
Recently, I purchased the Warn M8000s which came with Spydura synthetic line, blue in color for those that are in to that...
What is the difference between the synthetics besides the name?
I haven't researched them all but the brands I have seem to be and say the same given the differences in diameter.

Just askin'.

Thanks Dell, that is one of many I've seen, good link though.

Other than the amount of braiding, number of strands & diameter, they all do as advertised. Perhaps some better than others.

As far as that link Dell, the sheath does protect the inner core, but to say that sand/dirt/rocks cannot get in there to the core and damage it is incorrect.

Step on the synthetic rope, or throw it in muddy water, and sane/dirt will find its way into the core and degrade it. Proper way is to wash the synthetic rope after use, and NEVER step on your rope.

It does aid in preventing dirt from getting in there, but I haven't had an issue with my JeepSWAG technora rope.

well fark... don't tell me... I'm not the author

I don't have the mp SLXD rope anyway,
just plain ole' mp superline

no matter... the shit is tuff as hell
had it since '04... abused it to shit, many a occasion

little frayed a coupla feet back from the eye end
but otherwise no visual wear

the colors do fade after time tho'
my rope was bright orange when new...
now it's light orange.

heard it can be re-dyed... never cared.

If the frayed part of the rope breaks one day...
I'll just re-weave a new eye end on the slightly shorter rope.
at a 100ft... I got an extra 20 ft to play with

meh... nothing is forever anyway
but it's nice if it lasts for awhile
