web hosting

Last few sites I have built for people have been on GoDaddy, and while they have worked in every way I could ask for.. I am just wondering what everyone else is using. I will be writing in ASP (old school, not asp.net). Beyond the normal being able to write to databases, etc.. I need subdomain support.. So what do you have?

I use www.bluehost.com for my site hosting. They are a really good company with good reliability. However they run Linux boxes, so I don't think ASP is supported.

Chillisoft ASP may be possible. This is on the linux side.

I use www.1and1.com linux hosting, just because I have for ~10 years. I work for another prominent host however, but we only have windows dedicated servers available for now on the windows side. We are still developing windows shared, for which I played a small role in the beginning.

ASP is supported across the board in terms of IIS versions, so no problem there. However on the shared side you'll have to see if whoever you look at offers support for it or not.

Thought I'd bring this back up since the host I'm currently with (almost 8 years now) is really pissing me off. To keep this non-biased I won't mention who I'm with, although it's not hard to figure out.

1and1 isn't looking too bad since I need ASP.Net support, 3.5 would be best, 2.0 is allowable I guess.

Small company, less then 5gb storage but larger would be nice, at least a couple dozen sub-domains, unlimited x-fer prefered, multiple FTP accounts, unlimited email accounts or at least 500+.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Try the Amazon AWS, it's free for one year. link.

Just signed up, and I"m checking it out.

I use a Virtual server for my hosting. It gives you the same freedoms having a box in a DC, but you don't have to deal with the hassles of HW issues.
