The guy at les schwab tried to sell me these becuase it was all he had in stock when i was looking for a 33x10.5 and I was wasnt going for it, pizza cutters. I like skinny tires too, but this was a little too much commitment for me.

Id love some pics too.

Hey all. This is my first post to this forum, as I followed all of the recent hits to my site here.

The 255/85 R16 is a great tire IMO, though a little big for the general exploration stuff that I do. Even with the Deaver springs centering the tire in the rear wheel well I am still rubbing at full compression (I have done some trimming). I have a fix devised and can let you know how that goes if you would like. I also need to regear because of the tire size and weight of my truck. Its a constant evolution, huh

I think the greatest benefit of the tire is the clearance it affords, as it is taller than the typical 285 or 33x12.5, but narrower to allow fitment with less lift. You also benefit from better contact pressure which can be an advantage in some surface conditions.

Anyway, best of luck with the pizza cutters, I am sold on them. I am also running the 33x10.5 on my Wrangler, and ran 33x9.5 on my FJ40...

Well, I was going to recommend you look at Scott's truck but here he is in the flesh, so to speak.

I think it just depends on what you want to do. For driving around town, with a mild lift, 265 75r16's would be great. If you really need the ground clearance, then you could try the 255 85r16 tires.

Skinny tires are awesome offroad tires more pounds per square inch on the ground for better traction. But i love the looks of wide tires. Its a question of offroad ability or looks. Poser or nonposer LOL. I guess I'm a poser just ordered some 38x15.50x15's for 15x12 wheels. Offroad ability will good down the drain except for mud holes.

I think the wide offroad tires start looking like Mexi-rides with the wheels that stick out too far. I like when a tire stays in the fenderwell. You ordered 15.5's! Good grief! hope you don't live in California cause there is no way you could find fender flares to hide those puppies!

I'm running 33x10.50 and love them. Close but not quite as skinny as the 33x9.50s.

I didn't regear, and I'm running 4.10. On the road, it's fine. I can still break them loose at times from a redlight, but not as often as when I had stock 31s.

Last time i forgot to ask you about how you made the tires fit. I see in your sig that you have a 3" lift. Is that all you needed or did you cut somewhere else to fit that tire size?

IM a jeep guy (SSSHHHHHH) I ran 33 x 9.5 bigO xt's on my trail rig/DD cherokee and it did everything from daily driver to the hammers and AZ class 4.5 trails and above. A narrower tire gives you more bite per sq. in. of contact patch.


they changed the tread pattern and gave the tire more sidewall protection last year. we no have 30's on my wifes xj and they are even a better all around tire. we ran them at moab last year and loved em. the road noise is minimal at 70 plus and massive amounts of off road traction.


BTW hi all! Im a toyota fan from when I got my lisence back in 76. I did my driving test in a 4" lifted fj55 with 33" gumbo monster mudders and no power steering LOL

In general, its alot easier to fit a taller tire if it is narrower - I know a bunch of FJ40 and FJ60 guys run 33x9.5s on stock suspension.

I beat in the pinchweld some, but not flat yet. It doesn't matter on the road, but it will when I go offroad. I also cut the plastic on my front bumper some, so it slopes more outward towards the front. I'm not sure if I needed it cut, but it was easy with some tinsnips handy so I just did it. The driver's side is a bit more jagged because of the direction that tinsnips cut, but I don't really care since it's just stock tupperware

The rear tires will rub for sure at full flex, but again it hasn't been a problem yet. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

thanks, i see is doable which is what i needed to know. Probably an extra inch of lift could cure the whole problem, maybe a body lift.

I am running 34x9.5" Swampers on my '85 right now. (Once I regear and upgrade the axle shafts, I plan to run 36x12.5's) With the 22re, I am slow as hell, but with the 4.7's my crawl ratio is decent.

Rusty Runnah on Pizza Cutt'rz !

Couldn't resist, thread was already dug.... 33x9.5 BFG AT KO's Pie Cutters are great in the Snow and turn real nice on the highway... a bit tippy on my IFS queen during serious play time. I usually rock 12.50 but my eyes have been opened to the possibilities of Skinnies all the time, maybe more like a 10.50 lil' easier on the old 3.slow. Time to start cuttin' SAS and 35" this spring

Well, I have ordered a pair of the BFG AT 33x9.5s and I am going to run them with my 4.10s. I dont do much crawlling, but a 3.89 gear ratio is really going to take some getting used to. I also hope these things will fit allright with my 2-2.5" of lift from the tundra springs. I will be sure to do a write up once they are on as it doesnt seem many people at all run a tire this size (9.5) on a tacoma or 4runner.

Thanks, it has seen a lot of work since the last time you were down.

My stock gearing is 4.10's, but I would kill to have a 5vz in here instead of the 22re, that would certainly help me on the highway!

Yeah Intrepid your Runnah looks sick, I love those 34x9.5 great Toy tire lil' ruff on the road though, actually how are they on the pavement ? I definatly need to regear for bigger meat. Amongst other things.....Gotta ditch IFS and get Locked and.... yeah I thinks there's a few (hundred) members would love to 3.4 swap and a SC. Hate to say it but can't wait for my 3.slow to go ... LOL

the 34x9.50 TSL's SUCK on the street. they cost me ~2 MPG over my AT radials and it sounds like the 8th Bomber Wing is constantly flying overhead... Flatspots every morning. They are slicker than shit in packed snow. They're good offroad though!
