Specs
1/4" plate steel CNC cut formed on a press brake and fully welded. The design will allow me to only have 4 weld joints on the whole skid shell (not including the mounts) all the rest will be bent steel plate for Optimal strength. The design also has Pinion protection (NOTE) if you have axle wrap I don't recommend pinion protection because it will contact your drive line when your axle wraps.
The mounts are 1" DOM tube for the font lowers with welded bung and the top plate is 1/2" plate with 3/4" DOM tube welded to each side with two 3.5" grade 8 bolts providing a full lock around the front of the 3rd. the axle tube mounts are 1/2" plate CNC cut and formed to the axle and 3/4" DOM welded at the ends for the top clamp secured with two 2.5"x1/2" grade 8 bolts and locking nuts.
I HIGHLY recommend test fitting your skid before painting it slight modifications may need to be made to it for fitment.
Skids will be shipped as shown in the photos with one coat of self etching primer. If you plan on powder coating your skid let me know and I will not prime it.
The axle clamps are side specific there will be a D and a P on the top clamps they will not fit if you switch them.
Disclaimer
These skids are for off road use only and are not DOT approved please obey local laws and regulations.
So, if I read correctly, after you get 40 orders the price is just $10 flat, and that's with shipping?
If so, I'll commit once I see 40 orders. Cause I can't afford any of the higher prices.
Also waiting to see how exactly it attaches to the axle.
Really diggin this, looks awesome! All bolt-on would be sweet, especially for us less-hardcore type like me! Im guessing a U-bolt on either side of the diff and one around the pinion?
This looks similar to the design that was in the works quite a while back but it seems like they couldnt find a way to produce it in any numbers quickly therefore it would be rather expensive. Just curious, is this related to the old project or is it all new? I think hytenor might of been in on the one I saw before? Not to sure thou, been a while.
By drain holes im guessin you mean drain for diff oil and also a hole or two for water drainage?
Also guessing the "BTF" piece shown on the mock-up axle is not part of this new set-up?

Yes it's a bolt on design it will have U-bolts on the axle tubes and 3/4" DOM tube with a welded nut to thread the top plat on the pinion.

No this is all new I have seen hytenor skid in searches when i was researching the design.

The drain holes are just for water drainage. there will not be any hole for changing the diff oil. I feel it should be fully protected form damage so the skid will have to be removed to change the diff oil. But 6 nuts to get to the diff is a lot better then re welding a new drain plug because you ripped your out on a rock.
Also guessing the "BTF" piece shown on the mock-up axle is not part of this new set-up?
The BTF rear diff cover is already welded to my axle and no it's not part of this skid. without the diff cover it will have a small gap between the skid and the axle. I will be gusseting the others to help avoid the back bending into the axle when backing into a rock.
I'm interested also. I have seen Hytenors' and wanted one. Much better protection than my e-locker guard. Which will only protect from scatches. If I ended up with the entire rear weight on it it would be useless and still break everything.
And the question with usual bad news for me: Shipping to 96714?
Okay I'll add you to the list and about the shipping I'll look into it later this week or next weekend but I'm sure it's going to be $$$ seeing how these things are about 30lbs
19 Confirmed from TW alone and I anticipate more. This GB is on TW, Here & YotaTech so just a few orders from TTORA and YotaTech and the shipping will be 10.00 flat
Your in luck I have a LC being dropped off at the shop on Sunday. I will check the diff and see what modifications need to be made to fit the 9.25 LC rear diff.
I'll add you to the list just so you have your spot locked in.
I mocked up the front lower mounts last night here are a few cell phone shots.
The top plate in the picture is just a jig for tube placement. The top plate will be 1/2" plate across the top wrapping the 3rd with 3/4" .120 wall tubes welded to each end where two 3" long 1/2" grade 8 bolts will bolt into the lower mounts. I wont have the bungs until the end of the week but this gives you guys an idea.
There is a rest under the 3rd that raps the lower to aid in clamping you can't really see it in the picture if you look closely you can see the weld joint. Its 1/4" now for mocking but will be 1/2" plate for the final product. Note the tube used for mocking these is HREW the finial product will be all DOM tubing.
These 1" .120 wall tubes will have a weld in threaded bung for a 1/2" grade 8 bolt to clamp the 3rd.

-that is awesome. i am excited to get one of these on the rig!!!!
I got the PM about deposits and replied. I have to back out for financial reasons. Sorry, and I hope this doesn't affect other peoples discounts in the group buy. Thanks, Wainiha
I went to RuffStuff today and picked up the weld in washers I'm welding and tapping them tomorrow so the front will be done but the U-bolts are not here yet so I cant mount the axle side just yet. I should have the U-bolts Wednesday. But really this is the finished product just without the U-bolts.
At first these skids were doing to be plasma cut by hand. But after thinking long and hard about hand cutting 40+ skids I decided to bite the bullet and buy a TorchMate CNC table.
Production will be starting the end of next week I need to drive to Reno on Wednesday and pickup my TorchMate. Once I get that all set up the skids will be cut. I'm expecting the first batch to go out buy the end of the GB 10/15.
about time somebody came up with something like this I've been trying for over 6yrs to find a fabber but have stuck out each time. Your design is awesome, doing what mine does but simpler...well done. I had finally given up trying to farm them out and was going to have the basic skids done locally (found a cut/bend shop in the East Bay that could do them for a reasonable price) and then weld them up at home. Won't need to now
I have a few U-bolts at home that you can have for your mock up if you want.
or... you can get them from Bettis, just south of the airport in Oakland (where I got mine made up)
I also really didn't like the idea of using square U-Bolts so I made a jig out of some scrap axle tube I picked up when I was at Ruff Stuff and bent the wings to form to the axle more.
get these while the deal is still this good people!!
