Looks... unless your talking about a snorkle kit. Yes you can get aftermarket scoops to mount. But what for? A look? Most after markets are not real unless you cut a hole in the hood. Might get fresh air to the engine bay is all. Wouldn't do anything at slow speed. And very little at high speed. Not like the old car's with the ram air hoods that actually do something. I don't know about the 05's But I doubt they do either. If I'm wrong someone will correct me... Forget about the hood scoop... waste of your time and money... Now a snorkle could come in handy though...

scoops

The only two practical reasons I can think of to have a scoop in your hood (other than Bling) are 1. That you want to run some sort of shaker hood/intake combo like on an old muscle car, (in which case save the money and go for a deck plate mod, and if you so wish a snorkel)
2. That you are running turbos or some other really high temp set up and you are trying to get cool air forced into the engine bay to lower temp (I haven't know of too many naturally aspirated tacos to run that hot).

if your truck is charged, the scoop actually does keep it a little cooler

That one actually works unlike the bling factor for '05's.

if the scoop is just a BLING option on the 05's...what about the low 00's to 04's sport edition of the 4Runners?

Of course they look nice, but I'd want some functionality out of one other than just BLING.

Thanks in advance...

Question scoop on scoop

So what's in a real hood scoop? Is it just a hole on the hood covered by a scoop or is there some filter in there so water and dust does not get into the engine bay?

A "real" hood scoop, as you call it, is an opening in the hood that allows cool air to be drawn into the intake/air cleaner/carb/etc.

However! Since these trucks (and most late model vehicles) take their air from the passenger side fenderwell a hood scoop is pretty much useless for anything other than "Ooh-Aah" factor.

Would it be possible to reroute the "fenderwell" air intake to the "hood scoop", sort of a low key "snorkle"?

Can't see why you couldn't, with a little imagination.

The hood scoops were designed for the diesels overseas there inter cooler runs across the top of the engine. But on gas engine they are worthless.
