New User and New Truck

I just got rid of my 12 second Trams Am and couldn't be happier with my new tacoma. I am 20 years old and love the new ride in almost everyway. Hope to learn some information here and enjoy the forums. I got a heck of a deal and couldn't pass it up. The only dissapointment is that I was hoping for 20MPG and have only got 100Miles and am inbetween half and the 3/4 mark above it. Maybe the dealer didn't fill it up all the way . I have been driving it super easy too. I live in far far west texas in El Paso and it will see occasional light offroading and sand dunes. I baby my things and could never see myself running the crap out of it.

Nice truck, you'll be happy with it. Be careful, I started hanging around here about a year ago and now I have no money.

I already fell into that pattern with my Trans Am, not ever going to happen to me again.

It's an addiction, and at 20 years old you have plenty of time to fall into it again.

Have you looked into the supercharger? If done correctly will not hurt your gas mileage but will give you one heck of a boost in power. TRDOLDMAN is getting about 275 RWHP and doing 14 seconds at the drag. This is with a 4x4 truck. Now granted it is not meant for racing, but it is nice to have that power when you need it. You will never feel the loads you carry or tow. Ok, ok I'll stop.

Welcome and good luck trying to keep the truck stock while hanging around here.... lol

In my experience you will only see 20mpg doing strictly freeway AND keeping it around 70mph. (4wd might make a little difference for me, but not much).

BOUGHT BACK AND CRUSHED: 1997 3.4L black x-cab w/matching high-rise cap. 4"
deckplate, Borla cat-back exhaust, ARB bullbar w/Warn XD9000 in it and Lightforce 170's onit, classy chrome nerfs. TRD Tundra coils w/Anders Engineering Spacer, Wheelers 5 leaf springs and Daystar shackles, OME's front and rear, Sonoran Steel Diff Drop, 33x10.5x15 BFG's on stock rims.
Check it out

Left me a little crushed as well...

Oddly enough, the gas gauge works differently than on my trans am. I have gotten 160miles now and am at half of the tank for mostly city driving. On the trans am 3/4 actually meant 1/2 and the 1/2 mark meant like 1/10 gas left. The tacoma is a pretty steady gas gauge giving proper readings. I think I will be able to get about 280 or more!

Ha, ha that is what I said when I bought my new '02. Like the other gentleman said, hang around here for awhile and you will start to see Christmas present ideas all year long.

'02 Pre-Runner, 3.4, auto, TRD Puffer, 7th injector kit, headers, cat-back, air filter, Monomax shocks, Summit anti roll traction springs, ARE hard tonneau cover, step bars, Justin bull bar w KC fog lamps, bed liner with home made bed rug....and I know now, I ain't done yet....Best vehicle I have ever owned and I have had a dozen or more including three mid 60's muscle machines.

Welcome! I also came from the drag racing scene to my Tacoma now. If you're like me you are now enjoying a whole new world of having a reliable, economical daily driver that won't get you into trouble! I would like to get back into racing someday just not with my daily driver! Congratulations on your new good looking truck

Yea, some stock taco alloys would look nice. That truck is really clean. Welcom to the family.

Yeah, I did buy one of the liquid air fresheners. They work pretty good . I think I am going to hold of on fixing up the tacoma until I am out of my warranty. I have plans as of right now to purchase an atv within a couple of months. I am looking at getting a suzuki quadsport z400 or Kawasaki KFX (same thing.)
