Question: Is the idler pulley a part you will pull of when permanently removing the A/C compressor and belt?
I am selling my A/C parts off my 99 taco 3.4L. Someone emailed me saying they want the idler pulley. IF i remember correctly, both idler pulleys are involved in the timing belt, And have nothing to do with the A/C unit.
Its a separate part and has nothing to do with the timing belt. If your completely removing the A/C, there is no problem removing the idler pulley and bracket as well since you won't need them either.
There are two idler pulleys integral to the operation of the timing belt - one of them (the one using the hydraulic tensioner) requires you to remove the ac compressor before removing the tensioner (hence the popularity of the SST tensioner compressor).
Edit: I just looked it up - the pulley on the compressor is the AC idler pulley
Here is my deal. Im building my salvaged Taco into a 1450 prerunner. I am not using the AC and everthing is in great shape so i decided to sell the components. I did recieve a picture of "an" idler pulley in the AC belt loop.
I also know there are two idler pulleys in the timing belt loop.
My question..that i couldnt answer becuase it was pith black is ...this AC idler pulley can be pulled completely off not affect anything else.? I am now believing so...
Ever figure it out? Im thinking about pulling my compressor too (not connected... probably really bad for the bearings in it)
