well for right now im just trying to get a feel for it. i dont know exactly what is wrong with it. if i can save it by just doing a simple rebuild then that "for sale" add in my sig is going away but if i find the head or block is warped/cracked then the 1990 4X4 is still on the market.

I was about to say screw it but the rust fell right off so my next step is taking the whole head and timing assembly off to find the source. I'm hoping one of the guides wore down and let the chain dig through instead of a cracked block. Only time will tell.

I'm curious as to why you pulled the rocker assembly all apart. Is it the rust you were worried about? The rocker assembly comes off as a unit and you almost never need to remove the adjusters from the rocker arms, unless you find a broken one.

Go ahead and take a look at the picture before it was out of the truck. WAY to much rust to just take off in one piece. I really don't want to put money into this so I'm trying to salvage each part

Did you start stripping the head off to see what the block looks like?
