Gentlemen, I have been trying to sell my truck for the past few months and have had offers of $5800. Wellll... it had 266k on the original 2.7, I mean this truck has been well taken care of and ran great. I let my dad borrow it for the past 3 days and I get a call this morning that it over heated. Well he just drove 10 miles home after that. I got to my parents this afternoon and checked the oil and obviously the head gasket blew and the oil and antifreeze mixed. He said the oil light was on this morning and still drove it.... who knows why.
Either way.. my once immaculate perfect little truck took a turn for the worst and now I am forced to fix it and keep it or fix it and sell it.
My current thoughts:
1. Get initial diagnosis from the shop to determine what really went wrong. Obviously we know the head is blown; but what caused the oil light to come on. Get the head gasket fixed etc. ~ $1200+ could be less but not sure yet.
2. Get a newish 2.7 motor from JDM for $1600 and sell the core.
3. Install something other than the 2.7.
I originally was trying to sell the truck because I wanted something bigger to tow with and to help use the money I sold it for to start my used car business. I am getting my dealers license in the next few days. But I dearly dreaded to get rid of my truck I have had for 10+ years and I knew the original owner very well, so this truck is very dear to me. Now I feel like since all this is happen I just keep the truck because I will never get the money back out of it with a nearly $2000 repair bill.
Let me know what the hive thinks.
