The time has come for me to start tearing down my truck. I ordered the Trail Gear kit with 3 inch springs a few days ago. Tonight I started tearing down the 85' front axle that I scored off craigslist. I have really been looking forward to this build for a while and I'll keep this thread updated as it goes on.
I was also wondering if anyone knows a good way to tell what gear ratio is in the 85 axle?
here's the axle and a couple of my truck before

you can pull the third and read and/or count teeth. or spin a tire or flange and count the revolutions of the other(or partial resolution)

If it a stock ratio their is a good chance its 4:10. Pull the third rebuild the axle then divide the pinion teeth into the ring teeth.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll be able to tell once I get it completely apart. Man those cone washers they put in there are a bitch!

Oh! Oh! I know this one!!
Run the nut out to the end of the stud to protect the threads. Use a brass drift and hit the stud with a hammer and the cone should pop right out... I hope. :D

Keep the IFS HUbs and Brakes. You can widen your front axle with it and better brakes.

Do I have to buy the Sky kit? I already bought wheel spacers and land cruiser rotor to use...
