anyone have any experience changing out axle shafts or installing manual hub kits or a drop bracket lift? i busted an inner boot and its gonna cost me an arm and a leg to have someone fix it. i have a few options to choose from....1) clean & regrease joint and replace the busted boots for high angle boots. 2) buy new axles and install with high angle boots. 3) manual hub kits. 4) drop bracket lift (probably the procomp 4" or tc 5"). I would love to go with a fabtech 6" but i have height limitations in my job's parking garage (tc 5" might even be too much). the problem here is, i hurt my back years ago and just recently strained it again BAD! due to the recent strain my back isnt 100%, not even 80% to do much or any labor work. which is why im considering paying a shop to do it or ask you guys for help. just keep in mind, if a wrenchathon can be done, i wont be able to help as much. but trust me, i will help to the best of my ability. lunch will be on me...even beer if you guys want for after but if thats still not enough, then payments can be done (just as long as its undercutting shop prices :p). i would prefer doing option 1 cause its cheaper. i never did clean and repack cv's so i have no clue what needs to be done. so anyone that has a place to do the work at and is willing to help please let me know. my boot has been busted for a few months now and needs to be fixed soon.

I would say come over to my place if I didnt have two vehicles to fix already. You should do option 1. Its not that hard and is relatively cheap. Just have to get the crimping pliers for the boot straps and the boots themselves, both inside and outside. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you out.

I replaced one of my front axles instead of re-doing the entire boot. It was a bit more expensive, but DEFINITELY easy. I did it myself in about 2 hours, or so. If you go that route, you can get a new axle from Napa, then bring the old one back to get your deposit back.
If you're interested in doing that and would like some help, just let me know! Otherwise, I'm not really familiar with how to do that other stuff, but, hey, what better way to learn than on someone ELSE'S truck??? ;)
Just let me know!

hit me up if you guys need help. i've done the cv boot thing on my other truck. i changed them out for hi angle boots from all pro off road. just to let you guys know i'm looking to lift my truck soon with a fabtech 6" dirt logic set up. if any body has done one before, let me know if it can be done at "home". i'm a technician but i don't have the equip. i.e. mig, press and plasma cutter. looks like a simple operation but never done one before.
thanks

No need for a plasma cutter just a sawzall and welder fro then crossmember, and press is needed unless you have the 95.5-04 tacoma then you gotta press the bearings. Other than that the 05 + are bolt on bearings and air tools to make things go faster.
