Jock and i helped Eric install his snorkel the other day. Man you should have seen his face when he drilled a 105mm hole in the side of his fender. I have to say he took it VERY well and in terms of fender holes being drilled it went off without a hitch. Well only after two trips to the hardware store and a little ghetto engineering. My pics arent that great but hey i tried.

"hmmmm yes no matter how i read it I NEED a 105mm hole in my rig"

Using the right tools is always important.

Measure twice drill once. (or in this case hammer once.)

"Why why why do i love wheeling and modding SO much?

Nope he isnt breathing. But Jock is LOVING IT. This picture is a pose. He wore safety glasses while drilling. I have video to prove it lol. Safety first!!

That's what I was thinking also. Not my eyes, so I should keep my mouth shut I guess.

Knowing what I know about the left side of that FJC, I can't think of why drilling a nice, symmetrical hole in the other side would seem that bad.... ;)

Very cool  Chicks dig the snorkel!

Screw that. I'd rather piss someone off and make them think about wearing them next time than watch them lose an eyeball.

I've been in the safety industry since I got out of high school. There are far too many injuries that are preventable by simple means... we all have a responsibility to our friends/coworkers/whoever to step up and point out when they're acting like a doofus.

My :2cents:

you make a good point and i have to agree with you.

and for everyone that it hasn't happened to, you really, really really don't want to get metal removed from your eye. it's no where near a fun experience and hurts like hell. oh and if you get an MRI and don't get an x-ray to check for metal first, that one really hurts. my last MRI took 6 hrs cause they made me go to the ER right after they started so i could get my eye patched up and stop bleeding all over their machine.

but hey lesson learned. i don't even wash my truck anymore without my safety glasses

Well in defense that picture was taken as a pose. Right after i took it i believe Jock said something and Eric put on his glasses. I have video of the hole drill and Eric definately has glasses on and Jock and were a safe distance.

Everyone is right though safety first!!! Sorry for the confusion ill add something to the pictures so that its easier to read.

Great to hear! Sorry to jump on that rather than bask in the glory of snorkleness. That's the problem with pictures! They can capture a moment in time, but it's not always an accurate capture of the true story!

In any case, hopefully this discussion has helped someone to make the proper decision regarding safety for a future project!

WTF DRILLED THAT HOLE IN MY RIG??!!:welder:

If you've ever seen Saturn 3 you'll know why I always wear safety glasses around hot sharp flying objects. Thanks for the tips and reminders though :D

And thanks to Brandon and Jock. They thought they were coming over to help me with a 60 minute LCA swap, but when bushings went missing we decided to drill the ARB for shackles and the bumper for the snorkel. Many hours later I was smiling and they were still shaking their heads (or maybe it was the other way around... )
