Sweet Dan! lets get it going.

I need to get one of those 1 ton thingys you posted up there :) Good move on getting that out of the way.

I like the truck you got there, much better than that other death contraption that guy handed off to you

from experiance, if you want it done by 7/4 your going to need to take some days off work. Its hard to get much done just on the weekends, trust me. You saw how long it took me to get the truck up and going.

Let me know if i can come give you a hand. :saw: :welder:

So im cutting off the ifs this weekend, and ordered my ring and pinons for randys. The good news is im being moved at my job again so I should have some free time. Your build looks freakin great jerry! That is some great work. The 1 ton mc swap was from rockstomper in denver, 85 bucks.

Mythica
08-07-2008, 08:57 AM
Yeah you told me that on the phone the other day. At least they are just tacked so we can move it around.

Can you take some picts?

What do you mean not straight? One side is further forward than the other? What do the shackle angles look like? What about the perches that you had put on, is one of them cocked to the side a bit?

If we could get less busy so we can meet up, i know we can figure it out. Its one of those things on a swap that has to be done often, Sit down look at the truck and figure out what the hell needs to be adjusted.

You will get it man!!

Volcom
08-07-2008, 12:37 PM
With my rear 4" Trail Gear springs, I had to move one shackle hanger forward about 1/2" ahead of the other to get the shackle angle the same on both sides. I swapped springs from side to side and it followed the spring (meaning the springs were different).

RedRunnertc
08-07-2008, 09:53 PM
Check that the axle is square with the frame by measuring an X to a crossmember - both measurements should be the same - then do the same thing to the front axle.

For 39's, you're probably gonna need to cut the fenders anyways, so you can make both sides of the body match easy

orange crusher
08-07-2008, 09:59 PM
So from the axle to the forward crossmember?

That makes more since. I am pretty freeking confident that we got that in there square with the frame. We measured what like 2o times? My bro and i were over there for a while that night.

But do like TC says and double check that it is square with the frame, both front and rear.

Hit me up when you get back to town.

Mythica
08-12-2008, 11:46 PM
Well it’s not your DD.....

Find out what is bent/broke and replace it. Make sure to get it all back together square. New or old. Square is square. If its the frame and not a cross member well that just means more cutting and welding. :( It can be fixed, in your garage even, it just takes time.

But if you can live with it and make it drive right, it is not like it would be the only truck on the road that drives crocked. I have seen some old school full size trucks that drive down the highway damn near sideways.

So if it’s something you can live with on a trail rig, then I say adjust it... :saw: (we need a hammer)

You’re not a dumbass man!

In fact I think you are one of the bravest or craziest souls I have ever run across. This being your first rodeo and all. And that is one hell of a big project you have going on there. I have been working on cars and building projects my entire life. So I salute you for jumping in head first to a project like this!

Sometimes we get wrapped up in the project and when we run into a problem we over look the obvious, or assume that what we did was done right the first time. Its one of those things when you just need to step back and take in the whole picture.

You still need to double and triple check everything, take notes, write everything down and compare measurements before burning it all on.

We took enough measurements last night and I am confident that the rear axle is square. The biggest problem is that the rear driver spring is shot so it is sagging bad on that side, combine that with the dented in body and there’s where the clearance issue comes from.

Get new rear springs and double/triple check everything! It’s going to be bad ass man!

Now go get that damn thing finished so we can :driving: before 2010 ! :) (J/k it’s not a race bro. It’s a test in patients and perfection)

I used a forklift and a telephone pole to "realign" my tacoma once from a rear end crash. It actually worked. Also, dropped the truck from the forklift onto some blocks to debow the rear. Was like a little rainbow after the hit, after we were done with it it was straight again. This is completely ghetto and probably somewhat imprecise, but can yield results if you are careful. Here's how! Secure chain to rear corner of truck, wrap around telephone pole (avoid wires), ((or very stout tree))... and roll forward start with one foot slack and increase distance slowly to provide more pull. makes big "wham" noise and you may cringe a little but these toyota frames are damn tough, and it could take several attempts before you notice any difference at all. Just check square after every time. You'd be surprised how well this works, and it's free! This is your truck and you should feel free to reform its' basic structure as you see fit using Brute Laws of Physics!!!!!! Chains, trees, inertia... oh yeah. Consequently, I haven't slept in three days, so I'm a little punchy, but I actually have done this frame tweak several times. It's up to you. peas.

Mythica
08-25-2008, 12:42 PM
Are they actually "new"?

are they on the right side? I am not sure if they are Passanger driver side specific, but they may be, i know that the taco leafs are.

Is it still sagging? or is the one tire just closer to the body?

If it is still sagging the springs might be on the wrong side. If it is just the body thing, Then it is from it getting crunched.

You have to cut it anyway.

Last time i was over there the axle was square. That driver side spring was badly sagging, if it is still sagging something is wrong with the spring.

Why would you want to flip the springs? Unless one of them is in there backwards thats not going to do anything other than change your wheel base, and thats only if the axle location is off set to one side.

Dude call me, when you get a chance. i cant swing by tonight, but maybe tomorrow.

orange crusher
08-25-2008, 09:47 PM
Yep that exactly what I want to do. Change my wheelbase. Will it hurt me if I do that? And no they arent brand new springs. Just newer ones I got from the junkyard. Good news the truck sits straight. And the shackles are even. Ill text you tomorrow. Oh the side that is crunched is not the side im having problems with. Ill swap leafs tomorrow nite.

Mythica
08-26-2008, 08:30 AM

I saw that thread on Pirate. That sucks dude. A front D60 is going to set you back quite a bit. My dad is in the process of putting D60's under his Scrambler.

What's the strength "rating" of the 10 bolt?

orange crusher

When you don't know what a d60 looks like I would say so. There are a few differences to tell them apart. Wish I had done research before I bought it. The strength is a little less than a dana 44 I do believe.

Damn bro its been so long since i have been over to see your truck i cant remember any of the details. Thats a passenger side drop isnt it? I think i know someone that might be getting ready to get rid of his 60. At least thats what he said the other day, hes getting ready to move. It was for a heep so i dont know what the drop is on it, i will check it out.

CUbuff4Runner has the same issues. His front case will push gear oil into the rear case. Every couple of months, he has to drain the rear case and add to the front. He's got 4.7's in the front gear-driven case and stock chain case in the rear using Inchworms V-6 adapter and gear to chain case adapter.

Mine was pushing gear oil into the tranny as well, until i pluged the hole.

Or it's going from the rear case into the front, I'll have to ask him again.

Crusher - Here's a link to Pirate's D60 Bible (http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/index.html) Before you buy your next axle, try to lookup the BOM (Bill of Material) # on the axle and look in this link (http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/D60%20Front%20Shafts.html) to see what exactly it came out of and to make sure it's a front 60.

Id slap that 10 bolt in there until you get a 60. The spring perches are the same center to center. I put a 44 under mine uintil I could get my 60 under it then had to sell the 60. Now Im waiting on my Superiors:D. The 10 bolt will probably be O.K. as long as its not locked. Id still carry extra shafts though.

Mythica
01-23-2009, 08:37 AM
They are a little more expensive. But they back up their parts and have great customer service.

They sent me the wrong backing plates for my 9". when i got them and went to put them on i was like wtf is this, they sent me plates for an old torino, the small 9". I called'em up. they rushed out the correct parts, got them next day and they credited me back for the wrong part and didnt charge me for the correct part. lol i still have the wrong part in my garage... but i did spend thousands of dollars with them so....

So dan that housing was 350$ Holly crap!!!!!!!

I been kicking around the idea of going to a 60 up front and putting my 44 on my bros bronco, but i think a 60-9 would work out around the same damn price. at least after you start buying axels and stuff. Damn thats a lot of money.

$20?!?!? argh... yeah, that's nice to have 220 drop in the garage.. I looked around at having that done, and found that the insurance company wanted proof that a licensed electrician installed it before it was covered. I don't know of any so it was going to run me $300-ish to run it from an existing circuit 10 feet for the plug in my garage.
