Hey, I dunno if anybody has heard of this? But i guess a few knuckle heads were messing around at Fordyce, and evidently they stole a tractor and dug a whole bunch of holes all over the trails. After they dug a whole bunch of holes they decided to dig a really big hole and drive the tractor into it. Well the parks service peoples were furious about this, so they chopped down a whole bunch of trees and blocked the trail off. Memorial Day weekend is supposed to be a big clean-up to get the trail in shape for the summer!

Has anybody heard about this? And is anybody plan on going?

I'll be there.

I heard about what happened. Dunno what the snow is like though, that's only a week and a half away. Kinda hard to repair the trail when it's under 10 feet of snow.

Yeah I heard about it too. I'd be glad to go up there once the snow has melted and help clean up cause that Eagles Lake/Fordyce area is one of my favorite spots to wheel.

I'll be heading to Reno this weekend in the familty truckster (stock '05 runner). I'll stop at the trail head on the way back and give a snow report. I know the trail entrance is a little over 5k ft but also know it rasies especially on the fordyce part of the trail.

the FS closed the trail until spring/summer and plans on dealing with the problem then. Pirate 4x4 will have up to date info.

I believe the suspect(s) is some enviro-nazi just trying to cause trouble...definitely not an off-roader. there are a bunch of long threads about this on pirate.

Went to the trail head yesterday and there was no snow at the staging area...after going up the hill to Reno my guess is it would be pretty clear except for maybe some shady spots. Snow was thin to none to about 6000'-6500'.

Well the clean-up already happened last Saturday 5-21-05. Guys brought all their trail rigs with winches and were winching out huge logs and luging boulders around. I didn't know they changed the date so I wasn't able to make it. But I guess there was a good turn out. Pics and more info on www.pirate4x4.com
