i just trying to find a way around the factory e-brake and cheap way to have a parking brake... i heard that installing a line lock would work for a parking brake.. i was just wondering how good this works and how and where to install it? whats you opinions?

I have one on mine and works good but would work even better with disc brakes. If I was to do it again,I would probobly do a cutting brake instead:2cents:

I was looking into these and after seeing various rigs with them, I got this link from a guy running this style, which I like cause it's not electric. Gotta re-route brake lines a bit, but well worth it to not rely on a solenoid.

Push botton..Basically hit the brake ,hold it,push the botton and relese the botton and brake pedal. To un lock just hit brake pedal and walla..back to normal.

this is something I need to do too. having no parking brake sorta blows. leaving it in gear is not bad unless you want to leave the truck running

For the record, a line lock is electrically operated valve so will draw excessive battery power if parked for a long time. I measured about an amp. Of course since a line lock utilizes the existing hydraulic brake system it is not really an emergency brake. E brakes have to provide redundancy to be called an emergency brake.
If you are looking for something to use as a parking brake for long term parking, then what you really want to do is install a simple ball valve somewhere in the cockpit in the brake line. Mash the brakes then close the valve and you are parked. As long as you're at it, you may as well do the front brakes too but I'd use a separate valve. There is no rule saying that parking brakes are to be rear only. With either solution, a ball valve or line lock, be aware that any pressure leakage at all will result in no more parking brake in very short order. A dicey situation if parked on a hill. I wouldn't trust it alone for over night parking. Adding the front brakes with an additional valve would provide some redundancy. Putting the tranny in first or reverse for a manual tranny or in park for a slush box is a good habit to form no matter what you use for a parking brake. I'm just too damn lazy to chock the tires too.
exactly my problem!!!!

I use a lever accuated Mico-lock.It works well and has never failed but I wouldn't leave it on a hill for a extended period of time in nuetral either.

what about all the t-case brakes? Do they work? I need a brake also. Tired of not being able to warm the truck up in the driveway without it rolling away or having to sit in it to do so. I'm with Dick too lazy to chock the wheels.
yea they work but aren't the strongest. Fine for the driveway warm up. Only one that is made for our trucks is from ballistic - as far as I know.

Now a T Case brake or drive shaft brake does qualify as an emergency brake. It's a whole nuther kettle of fish however as you have to find space to put a brake disk under there and keep it out of the rocks. Of course you also have to screw around with the drive shaft.
The braking action of the single disk is of course multiplied by the differential gears. FJ40s had this kind of brake as the stock e-brake but they used a small drum brake instead of a disk. It would also function as a real parking brake just as stock E brakes do.

Check any sandbuggy catalog, they sell a very simple mechanical lock. Cheap too, problem is if you lose pressure anywhere it releases! So I certainly would not use one for long term parking.

I had a tcase brake from all pro all I can say is it was a pos. it constantly needed adjustment to grab firmly and didnt work for shit on the trail. sky makes one that might be better built. I also need some sort of ebrake system since im now discs out back.
anyone ever thought of taking a cutting brake and making a ratcheting set up so you could ratchet them locked.
