A friend of mine has a 2004 D-Cab with keyless entry. He's kinda thick headed (Prodigy's familiar with to whom I'm talking about). When he uses the keyless entry to unlock all the doors (two presses), by the time he's got the bambino lassoed, and to the other side of the truck to stuff him in the car seat, the system has relocked all the doors.

I know that the time setting for this is adjustable (it's at it's max presently), but I'm wondering if it can be turned off completely or set in Valet Mode indefinitely.

I've searched the National board and many "alarm" sites and forums and can't seem to find the instructions that apply to this particular vehicle. What I have found is that over the course of the first gen Tacomas, several models of keyless entry/alarm systems have been used. The actual fob and "brain" for this system are labeled as "Toyota". The side windows also have "Karr Security" deals in them. The best info that I've found so far is from Parks Offroad (http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamods/alarminfo/alarminfo.htm), but this does not work for this particular install.

One thought that's bouncing around in my head is that maybe the Karr system and the keyless are two different systems and that I may be able to disconnect the power for the Karr system and that the keyless will continue to operate unhindered (and without relocking).

Fun stuff....

Sounds like an aftermarket alarm is interfacing with the Toyota keyless ... but I am probably not thinking straight, still flabbergasted by Jade having "a friend" ... who's not imaginary ... and has a d-cab ...

Anyways, maybe pull the lower panels of the dash and look around for the alarm box.

I think that the "alarm" and the keyless are suppose to work together. The truck was purchased new and I did already find the "ecu" for it behind the driver's kick panel....says Toyota on it but I think that it's dealer installed (Karr) because all the connections are crimp and electrical tape. I know that the settings can be changed and turned on/off, I just need to find the right friend....

....speaking of which....imaginary friends are way more polite than real people any day.:p

i work for toyota, we used to sell karr alarms on our vehicles, we had so many problems with them. most of the time if a car was doing somthing stupid, the first thing we would do is remove all of the karr alarm system, and the problem would be fixed it has something to do with the way the tap into the wires that screws with things. your alram will still work without it. should be a blue box under the driver side kick panel just remove it and its wiring and you should be good.

The alarm isn't such a big deal, the keyless entry is what is desired. I've found the (in this case black) box behind the driver's kick panel. If this is removed and all wiring restored to original, should the keyless functions remain?
