Whats up guys I'm new to the Hawaii chapter. I had some questions on upgrades to my truck. I'm looking for a 6" suspension lift. What is the best one to go with?? Also was wondering if I should get locking hubs or not? Also..what would be the advantage of having the locking hubs?

Welcome aboard, Dennic! I don't have anything near a 6" lift on my Tacoma, so I'm not much of a help. But, there are probably plenty of folks on here (and on the national board) who can throw in some info for ya'!

In order to help them out with giving you recommendations, post up some info on your truck. Model, year, previous mods, and what you're looking to do with it. Is it for serious off-roading? Just some lift to look good on the streets? (Not being sarcastic, or anything... Just want to get an idea of what you'd like done.) If you can give that info, you're more likely to get better responses.

Again, welcome aboard, and I hope to see ya' on a run soon!

Have a great week,
-Radar

howzit dennic...
if you have a 95-03 taco, the only 6" kits on the market is the fabtech and trailmaster - both have their positives and their negatives....

fabtech - stouter of the 2, but struts limit front articulation; people say this makes the truck feel a bit more tipsy.

trailmaster - uses a weird shock strut combo that replaces your upper control arm. it's the older of the 2, many many many people used to run and wheel this kit.

a tough country kit will get you 5 solid inches of lift, people on the national board claim this kit as the toughest, as the drop bracket is a one piece design. i've heard the holes don't really line up and it can be a bit hard to install because of this.

pro comp will get you 4 inches. like the trailmaster, this is an older design, many people run this kit (myself included).

about doing a manual hub swap... unless you can find a donor truck to yank parts from, plan on spending 700-1k on parts - see off road solution or downey off road's website. i've heard this helps with your mpg, and is less wear and tear on your cv's (because they don't spin when you are moving). without manual hubs, the front cv's are constantly spinning. aside from the price, there is a downside - the manual hub cv shafts are a bit smaller (and weaker) making it a bit more prone to breakage.... i'm currently pinching my pennies so i can make this swap too.

if you have a current gen taco, disregard everything that was stated above... and forget about manual hubs because they don't exist for newer tacos :D

Thanks man. I have a 2002 toyota tacoma 3.4L v6 man trany. Jba headers magna flow cat back. Also, I have a 3" suspension and 3" body lift. I think Iam going to get the fabtech 6". After reading around everywhere as far as intakes go the vorlant sounds the best..any comments? Ive also read up alot on the pro's and cons about putting 33's or going with the 35's under that lift. What is your take on that.. Thanks for the help.

stick with the stock paper filter. if you really feel the need to buy an aftermarket filter then go with the amsoil drop-in. if you're going to do serious wheeling where wheel clearance during flex is needed then put 33's. you MIGHT be ok with the 35's running the 6" + 3" BL depending on what size rims you decide to run. if its more for show then 35's will be ok.

I have a 6" fabtech on my '04 with 285/75R16. I was also going to go a manual hub swap but i dont have $1300 needed to do the whole conversion with the bigger CV shafts, so im just going to get the hubs. Trying to save up for some donahoe Coilovers and some new UCA's. 35" tires will not fit under just a 6" lift w/o major cutting. Your best bet is 285/75R16 (33" with no rubbing) or 285/70R17 (34" with minor rubbing).
