I'm puzzled as to how the hell someone can get their hands in there to replace a fuel filter on a 2.7L tacoma. Whats the deal?

Get yourself a 3/8" drive ratchet and w/o any extension, use that to loosen the front banjo nut. Then using the same drive ratchet with about 6" of extension, loosen the rear banjo nut while reaching from the back of the engine. Now, using a 1/4" drive ratchet (a 3/8" will usually work also) and about 10" of extension, remove the two bolts holding the filter to the engine block. You can usually reach this from inside the fender, however I do everything from the engine bay.

You should only attempt this while the engine is COLD, as there will be gas spillage.
