View Full Version : Time to upgrade the Taco 06 or 07+ Tundra?

I'm working on expanding my family and my 06 Taco access cab just isn't going to be big enough. Its a fast fun little truck but the older I get the more I'm ready for a real backseat, captains chairs, and an auto. I really can't justify an 07+ with the 5.7. I don't haul much and they eat fuel like crazy. A 4.7 get's better mileage than my 4.0 currently does with my lift. Because of this I been leaning towards a 4dr 06. I could just about trade my truck straight across for one too. I've been looking around and there are quite a few 06's out there with less than 25K miles for low 20's.

I guess my question is are the 07+'s that much nicer of a truck to start over again on payments? I only owe like 19K on my Taco and it should be worth a lot more than that. What would you do?

I've got a Camry for that but that doesn't get my family into the mountains where we camp.

Already dumped a ton of money into the Taco. Like I said it's a fun fast little truck but I hate the way it rides and it gets horrendous mileage for a V-6. I also tow my built Runner to the trail several times a year. I pulled this load 2300 miles recently through the mountains of Cali, NV, ID, and OR. Ya it pretty much sucked going 35mph up every hill. It'll do it though. Just make sure you have brakes on both axles of the trailer and you'll be fine. My trailer loaded weighed in at 6180lbs and I had my Taco full of crap too.

Oh geez, you're definitely in need of a Tundra then!

Ya the 5.7 would be great but I only tow the thing a few times a year when I run the Con or Fordyce where breakage is highly likely. Other than those few times I have NO use for a truck that huge. I think a 4.7 Tundra would still be underpowered for that load but it would be leaps and bounds over my 4.0.

One Question why post this in the old truck and 4runner folder?

I would get the 5.7 and then you have an excuse to use it more and go on more wheeling trips pulling the badass runner. I would love to have the money to trade my taco for a tundra to pull my 83

I searched high and low for a Tundra folder did I miss it?

Like I said I'd love a 5.7 but it's really hard to justify with fuel prices the way they are. I have two cousins with the new Tundras and when driven the way they are meant to be you get no where near sticker mileage. I've pretty much already made up my mind unless I hear a really good reason to get a new one. This is likely the last truck I'll buy for a while and I want to make sure I'm happy with it.

Supercharged 4.7 Get like 300hp+ to the wheels. I know a guy who has one here in Co and averages 18 in town. I know my S/C Taco gets excellent mileage.

I drove a 07 Tundra DC 4.7 for a week and it was an awesome truck. Tons of room, plenty of power, and good looking.

what ever you decide to replace your Taco with (i just traded my '05 in on a Tahoe, needed room for family) get a weight distribution hitch, it will help quite a bit. It was light and day difference when hauling 6K loads on the '05...

Get the Tundra

Might I suggest a V8 4runner?
