I'm debating b/t using a scout II box & a L.C. box for the sas on my taco, due to the forward-facing pitman arm. Do all the L.C. steering boxes have forward-facing pitmans? which model/year L.C. would have the best steering box, as far as strength, ratio, availability, etc.? If I could stay w/toyota quality & still get the forward-facing pitman I'd be stoked. Also, what's the going rate for a rebuilt unit(on avg.)? Thanks to all. Later.
You could get a box from an old 60 series or 80 series. they are pretty stout but on my 62 I kinda need hydro assist with 35's. You can always get a rebuild kit and change the seals, not as good as new but the cheaper option over paying someone.
thanks for the info. Are they forward-facing pitmans from the early years thru the current year? I'm thinking that the newer I go the tighter it'll be.
I know the 60's have a forward facing pitman but not too sure about the 80's. the 80's are a little beefier too.
