View Full Version : Longfield giving me hell...

So I am putting the truck back together and for reasons I cannot grasp, I cannot for the life of me get the short side/passenger side Longfield back in the axle. It seems to be hanging up just before it gets to the diff splines. I have tried the "push down and in" technique I found on Longfield's site, but it's just not working. I have hit it with the soft hammer and the SOB just won't go in.
Has anyone else ever had this much trouble getting on to go in? I put a stock shaft in and it went in but the Long just won't go in.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Like Jimmy on Seinfeld, "Marshall's getting frustrated!!!!"
Thanks!

assuming that the splines arent lining up, but have you tried rotating/jiggling the pinion flange while pushing the axle in?
put a little grease on the splines?
tried sliding it in with a little momentum? i.e. pull it back and give it a good shove?
id help but im an hour away :D

Mar-tacked or c clip? If it has the C-clip they can be a PITA and will take some force to get it in. I mar-tacked mine of course I don't have 30 splines just the old factory junk with heat treated birfs.

Take the motor off and use a screwdriver to move the shaft.

*lightbulb* ah, i bet the fork is misaligned and is blocking the shaft from going in.
which is what i think kyle is hinting at above.

I thought about that. I'm going to give it a try this evening.
