You can still wheel and ignore the competitions. That's what we've usually done.

Yup, that was it. It's not the greatest place in the world, but it sure is close to school and work. Makes DD'ing the toyota pretty easy when you only have to go half a mile..

YotaJosh

Yep, it'll make it. The main roads there are pretty equivalent to the ones at HS, with the exception of a few places.

There's only power at the RV sites by the office and main entrance, so take that into consideration (if needed).

I will be there again. Won a free pass at the TLCA Tall Corn event in Iowa. Maybe this year I can set up by people I know (although the Houston guys were WAY cool). Not sure about Trish and the kids yet. Hopefully I'll have a locker by then. I sent a LONG email to Aussie begging them to make an 8.4" locker. Got an email back saying they have had an onslaugh of people requesting this locker and due to a high request level it might happen by next year! They hope to announce an 8.4" AND a locker for the 05' and up tacoma's. I rubbed it in about LockRight making one. :D

Don't hold your breath. It's been the same story for the V6 mini truck diff for years from them. I'd just get a Lockrite, unless Aussie is "for real" this time.

Josh, you had many takers on this Texas trip?
I've got my mind set on going. I'll probably wait a couple three weeks before registering, to better determine my calendar commitments.
I like your idea of having enough Arkansas people & trucks to fill a campsite. You do realize you will probably have some off-brand 4x4 folks tag along (for head count's sake, I say let'em in . . . HA!!!).
At 1800 acres, that's a big off-road park.
I'm liking the way this road trip looks.

YotaJosh
10-28-2008, 07:05 AM
No one is official yet, as the reg. page isn't open.

Unfortunately, its a closed, Toyota only event, so your head count padding probably won't work, unless you're inviting Toyota owners. :D

The park is a fun place, with plenty of wheeling for everyone. You'll stay busy riding trails the whole time you're there.

Hello neighbors!

Registration for this event is now open!

More information can be found here

Hope to see you guys out there!

I'll talk to Daniel and see if we can get it again. Josh, do you think that popup will make it to the campsite? You said the road in was pretty rough.

This depends on which campsite. Most are accessible via access roads which (depending on the amount of recent rain) are usually able to pull in popups.

There are also RV hookups in two locations as well.

So does this mean no wheelin after lunch on Sat? I'm not all that big into the competitions

As YotaJosh mentioned afterward, you can opt out watching are participating in the events. In fact, you can free-range during all the day events if you want.

If anyone has any questions, just let me know.

Ya'll can move this to "Off Topic" if it's in the way here, but . . . I got this cool idea while looking at the pop-up I almost got the nerve up to sell . . . "Can you put a lift kit on a pop-up?" I thinking about those new 15" wheel versions you see at the RV stores.

Blocks on the frame rail to add some height? Springs w/ more arch? 15" rims / hub bolt patterns? I'm thinking this has potential to be in the "Redneck Think Tank".

Although I realize I'm probably asking the wrong crowd (HA!), any redneck suggestions?

I'm aiming for Tejas' in Jan . . .

Is it already sprung over axle? Could you start with a whole new axle (like a mini toy axle with leafs) and weld up new spring purches and go from there? Sounds like a fun project. :saw:

YotaJosh
11-07-2008, 04:01 PM
Put a narrow, early Toyota rear axle under it, and you'll always have a spare third member for your truck. :)

One problem you'd encounter is the hitch. You'd really need a more 'offroad' friendly one.

Oh, and I'm registered! See you folks in January!

Glen,
After I got to looking around, the deer hunters had run the price up on all the small hard shell campers. That coupled with the fact that the pop up weighs less, saving gas . . . just got cold feet and decided not to sell. sorry if you're too disappointed. I promise the old camper ain't nothing to take the family on a big tour vacation or anything.
Josh,
I like the idea of running a Toyota rear axle. Not only have third member, but could use tires that match truck bolt pattern.

No banjo music . . . That's good. You might also have to draw straws w/ Faber on "side of bed dibs".
I talked to Michael yesterday. He's a maybe for January, but did say it would take a lot of work since he planned to tear down his red ride. Last report put them moved in and most boxes emptied. Michael's shop walls are up, roof on, now waiting for electrical work. He indicated he was not "on-line" yet, however the cable folks were at the end of the road, headed his way.

That all depends on which campsite and the weather and amount of rain between now and then, but even if you could get to the campsite the problem would then be where to place it. Some of these camp areas are going to be getting crowded and some dont offer areas to park a true RV. Pop-Up trailers are often used, but they can easily be tucked in under or between trees.

I would highly recommend keeping motorhomes up at one of the two RV areas close to the hook ups. However, if you like I can provide campsites names that are on the top of the mountain and give access to such vehicles. I would have to do some research, but I know there are a few.

We do have to buy a TX OHV sticker, right? It hasn't been mentioned here, but I came across a post on TTR saying we did.

There are conflicting public / official opinions about if BMRA (private land but received public state funds) falls under the OHV sticker law. We have been told to let the Game Warden in, if requested.

Currently TPWD FAQ say
If a resident of another state wants to trail ride with their OHV on public lands, where OHV recreation is legal in Texas, they will be required to purchase a Texas OHV decal.Again, like alot of laws (especially those concerned with Game Wardens), this is up to interpretation if the Game Warden does indeed show up.

We will be selling them at the event for $8 if anyone needs or wants one.
More on the decal can be found here (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/ohv/index.phtml)

I say we plan on camping at the Rover Camp (named Ecor Camp on this map (http://www.barnwellmountainra.com/images/map_property.jpg)).

It's a pretty nice site, as we stayed there last year. There's a central pavilion and fire pit big enough for all of us.

Old Camp is an awesome place, but unless someone gets there and holds a site for everyone, then we all won't end up there. It fills up fast, and is usually packed.

The further away they are, the better they are. :missingto The road to that camp is smoother than the one to Old Camp, plus you could pull a pop up right in there no problem.

A banner would be nice to have.

I've sent out a few emails to some local shops to see if they could get me a quote. I don't know what kind of funds we have after the Sept event, but if the club couldn't pay maybe those who are interested could spare a couple of dollars. A banner shouldn't cost too much.

Well, since so many people ordered shirts and didn't show up for the September event, most of our money is tied up in shirts that nobody seems to want. I have sold a few, and have to get back with a guy on one more. But, for the most part, I still have a bunch left.

I'd be willing to throw in a few bucks for a banner. Good idea. I've been wanting to get a Toyota flag to put up in our campsite for events but they all say Toyota Racing on them. Ain't much of a race at 2 mph.

Anyway, Rover Camp is fine with me. Not sure when I'll get there yet. Don't really want to take the kids out of school anymore than I have to. They already missed 2 days for Tall Corn and Superlift this year. I feel guilty doing that. My dad didn't let me miss school unless my eyes were popping out of my head. I'm guessing we'll get there Friday night. Hopefully before the chili dinner.

Now, after reading some of the "winter survival" threads, I'm really excited about freezing my sandstones off.

Believe me, after last year, that sounds like a good idea. I think I am going to be more prepared this year though, cause you can't beat camping at the park. I have already bought a sleeping bag liner, a heavier coat and one of those cool head mask things the NFL players are wearing under their helmets. Next on the list is a Mr. Heater for my tent. And I'm gonna bring more blankets this year. Now, with all of this preparation, it'll be 70 degrees all weekend and I'll need to bring my tent fan

Does anybody remember if there are electric sites there or if we can tent camp in the RV area? I got a silent electric heater for Christmas that would work great for the tent. My propane heater would lift my tent off the ground like a hot air balloon and wouldn't be very safe. I'll have the wife and kids with me this year as well.

I say we plan on camping at the Rover Camp (named Ecor Camp on this map (http://www.barnwellmountainra.com/images/map_property.jpg)).

It's a pretty nice site, as we stayed there last year. There's a central pavilion and fire pit big enough for all of us.

Ok, here's my order of preference, judging by what I remember about the sites:

1. Xterra Camp
2. Old Camp
3. JNT Camp
4. On the trailer in the parking lot. :missingto

There's a DFWTX4X4 camp, but I don't remember it.

I'm gonna make a safe assumtion that the Rover camp, and the TTR camp are full.

There's is one other site that's near the office. It's basically on a trail, and the ground is somewhat unlevel.

We're pulling our popup into camp with a 4x4 nissan. If it comes down to it, we can help you with yours too. I don't know how big your tow rig is or how big the trail is, but I'd assume you'll be alright. I know my big ford isn't gonna get close to the campsite. It's staying at the entrance.

Dom,
I'm driving a '06 Cheby 2500. It's a pretty good road truck & can pull a load no prob. But, it's a 2wd w/ posi-track 4.11 rearend & an offroad rig it ain't. If the road is good, I'll pull the pop-up in . . . not worried about this ole' truck's looks.

I do appreciate the offer to go w/ the Nissan as a trail road tow vehicle. It wouldn't be any problem to pull my pup-up into camp. . . it's small, old, and canvas is about half dry rotted, but since it holds heat (propane system works) & sheds water (most time w/ tarp), I'm gonna' keep on using it.

I was wondering about bringing firewood. I was planning on 15 to 20 good oak sticks, would probably make one good 1/2 nite bonfire. I'd guess there's scrub stuff around for the picking as well?

From the TPWD OHV site: TPWD OHV Department LINK

Quote:
Has your family discovered the fun of riding an off-road trail?

Whether you ride dirt bikes, all-terrain vehicles, or a 4x4 truck, an off-highway vehicle is a great way to spend time together outdoors with your family and friends. There are many exciting sites in Texas to ride and new sites are always opening. Many sites also offer hiking and camping which makes it easy to take the whole family along for an outdoors adventure.
The Texas Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) Program is a new program to help make it easier to find places to ride safely and to encourage more responsible use of the outdoors. The program is also designed to provide funding to develop more recreational areas for OHV users.

An OHV decal is now required by law for all individuals operating an OHV in Texas in an area that is located on public land, or on lands that have been purchased with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department OHV grants.

You might already be informed or not but back in 06 the mandatory OHV decal were made required for any motorbike, ATV, or full size vehicles. Yes that includes any of TMTC's maintained lands even though you would be attending a privately organized closed event.

Tags cost only $8 dollars and you can get yours by calling the TPWD Customer Service Center at 512-389-8917 or at one of these Additional decal purchasing locations.

Questions: You can find more accurate and up to date answers at the FAQ LINK

Get your up to date OHV Tags and help TPWD maintain our great outdoors. Lead times are 5-10 days for phone/fax order tags. Try to get them at your local purchasing locations if possible. There will be many drivers relying on purchasing theirs at BMRA so there are no guarantees they will have enough for everyone.

Aaron, you and Daniel will be the first ones there, JNT camp is on the way to Xterra, look it over on the way in, then when you get to Xterra make a decision whether the distance to it is worth being there

apparently the Greenlane trail is what Valkyrie says is the "short cut" starts there close to JNT camp, he also said Angry jeep is a cut off also, you might want the service road that goes the long way around

if you go down greenlane to get to xterra, be careful on the first dropoff. I know it was a bitch coming up it last time i was out there for the halloween run. I think the TTR boys had hell on it too, after I dug it out a little.

I'll give it a look, but chances are if we pull the pop-up all the way to Xterra, we're gonna stay there. We'll see though.

Well, that's no good. Hopefully all goes well with Gary and his family. We can always get a banner later on.

If I were yall I would just head down to old camp and look around for the txttora crew. I'll be somewhere up top setting up near some electricity, but im sure old camp will have plenty of space as long as everyone thinks about where they park and where they set up camps and all

definitely not trailer friendly. I can't think of many of the camps that are trailer friendly. Unless you don't mind dragging the tail of a popup over a bunch of rocks.

i cant find a picture of Daryl, he's the older guy (white beard) has the BIG FJ40 on 44's with a 454 chevy, Razorback camo :dunno:

although he's registered with a FJ80 on the jambo rollcall

Glen - be nice with that "older guy" stuff - I just turned 48 about a week ago and it don't seem that "old" to me:p

I'll be there Thursday evening by 6-7. I'm gona drive my "new to me" fj80 but will probably not wheel it much. I have arranged to crash in the sleeper of one of my White Thrash of Elwood buds. Look for the ultra cool hemi green mini Peterbilt tow rig at the rv site - I'm in there. I froze my A$$ of there two years ago also so I made sure I had better arrangements this year. It does look like a much better weather situation this year though. Look forward to seeing some of you folks again and might be looking for a right seat from time to time!

Yes, Camping cost are included in your registration fees. This includes entry into the park Thursday night to setup. There is no wheeling on Thursday, just staying warm by the fire.

Everyone, you should have received a email with gate information and office hours.

Let me know if anyone didnt receive it or if you have any additional questions or concerns.

My brother (Brad) and his group (Josh Dukes and Shawn ???) are coming in late Thursday evening. I am going to send them to Xterra and look for Aaron, Daniel, and/or Stacey. They'll be in a dark green 99' 4runner and/or a Honda Pilot they are using to tow it down. I imagine they will get there sometime around midnight or 1:00 Friday morning. I'm going to send them pics of your rigs so they can find you a little easier. If the three of you aren't up, they'll just pitch their tent close by.

I'm assuming there is a good sized parking lot for tow rigs and trailers, right?

We may or may not have our rigs off the trailer Thurs. night. I doubt there will be many other popups at xterra though.

Yes, there is tons of room for tow rigs. As you are going past the office, up the road across from the pavillion. There is an air station, and plenty of parking around that area.

In the map you posted above, that part of green lane is different than what notyourmomslx450 is talking about. the part he is talking about is the drop in by the RV camp sites. So you will be avoiding that ledge he is talking about (which is a bitch to get up)

I need another shirt as well. Either my medium got smaller or I got a lot bigger. I need a large now, it appears. I'm sure I'll see ya before I head back home.

Jerzees brand shirts tend to run tight but they are inexpensive. I prefer Gildan tees personally. I think Gildan is the same brand of tee shirt Marlin sells. This is something to keep in mind for next time. ;)

Lucky Bastards!! I am going to try and get to work that day by 6:30 and that way I can maybe be heading out from my house by 4. Keep your fingers crossed.
