View Full Version : Broken garbage disposal

... is how I describe the sound now coming from the TRD 1GR supercharger under my hood. It ran fine all the way to Aspen and back, as well as the 12 hour trail run a couple of weeks ago, but when I started it up last week to get ready for another trip... :eek:

It' at the shop now :(

This guy and his crying, I tell ya.

We have to put in a call to TRD for the "word". It sounds like an impeller bearing is letting go. We are not allowed to tear it down without TRD approval. TRD will determine the warranty and what gets to be replaced. This might make it more difficult to get parts as they will not give us a whole kit, just the failed part.

I'll give more updates if I'm allowed to look into the charger.

Yep, but we'll see to what extent. I'll remain optimistic.

What the heck man! Hope its not a big problem, free to fix and doesnt happen again! At least it broke at home, not on Taylor pass. :)

I don't have the details, but the last I heard was, "We have to order you a new supercharger and it's gonna be a while... so we're going to give you a rental car..." I'll know more once I get to talk to Brian and he has more info from Toyota.

TRD is sending a new charger. I have been instructed to not tear into the charger unit at all. TRD wants to put it on their dyno engine and hear the noise.

Got the FJ back today. The supercharger was replaced under warranty and the damaged one sent to TRD for diagnosis. Still waiting to hear what the problem was.

It was the first one off the production line, so TRD is curious.

I am curious to see what they find. There may have been a pound of dirt in there with were you have brought that thing!
