ok heres the deal, im working for the Yurok Tribe in Northern California, and we have an upper reservation, that is isolated, most of it doesn't even have electricity. Well, my department is working on a bringing a car crusher up there because there is an abundance of wrecked cars that are just littered in peoples yards. I will be able to take parts off any of the vehicles that are up there, because they are going to be crushed anyway, i was just wondering if there was any specific parts that i should look for? i have a list of cars that they have identified and i don't know how good of shape they are in, but i am sure there are some salvageable parts, like 63" chevy springs and stuff like that, i know they have a 81 toyota pickup up there, would the SFA out of that be worth anything, or even the transfer case or rear axle? i have a little trailer so i could get pretty much any part i need, any imput would be great.

You might want to keep an eye out for a Ford F100, F150 or F250 or even some of the full sized Broncos with a hi pinion Dana 44. I belive Chris Corley (Hytenor) is looking for one right about now.

I see a couple of Ford pickups so there is some hope if they are 4WD models.
The 81 axle could be sold to a pickup or second/first gen 4Runner owner.

i should be going up there some time this week, so i will try and take some pictures of them, i just think it would be a shame to see any salvagable parts go to the crusher.
Sooooooo CHRIS.... you going to come up here and help me find u an axle????

I've got a buddy with an 89 Runner that may be interested in that 81 SFA off the Yota. I'll talk to him and see if he wants it or not, and if he does, I'll PM you.

i went up there today , and some of the stuff does look like it has been picked through, alot of the engines were going, there was a toy that had a front axle in it still, i just went to one section, there are still tons of cars up there. and they been there for years. i will keep my eyes out for parts. i took some pics today real quick, cause we were in a hurry dealing with the watersystems.

so far the 2 fords that i looked at were 2wd. i took some pics today, and you guys can see what i am dealing with, we are going to rip out all the cars and bring them down to a area and have them crushed, i was just going to try and salvage some parts.

I am always on the look out for project cars that I can tinker with. I have a mental list of things I am always looking for, you hit on a couple. Do you know what year models the thurnderbirds as well as the El Camino are? If you see anything that maybe "Pre 60"s" I might be interested also. But if you happen to see a 68-70 Chevelle or maybe a Nova, that might also work.
The thing is though, I am a l-o-n-g way away from you so it may not be viable. But for the right vehicle at the right price you never know. My momma always told me "never walk away from a good deal"

Just trying to help you out, but you posted to the wrong person, you might want to go back to one of his post and post there so he will see yours. Especially if he is subscribed to the thread

thats exactly how i feel, i am not finacially stable yet to take on a project car, and i would hate to see a good one crushed, there are some old gmc pickups that look like they could use a little work an they would be awesome, im going up there again tomarrow and saturday, and i will take some pictures, there is one car that kinda looks like a chevelle , but i really don't know my old cars that well. the el camino is pretty old, i thought i took a picture of it in the webshots, i will keep yall posted. i just went up there today and found a nice plate of 1/4 inch steel. so there is usable stuff.
If you see a T-100 let me know.
I would love to see photos of the El camino if you can get them. The car that looks like a chevelle could be a couple different models so it may or not be a true chevelle.
I''ll go back to your webshots and look again, but I don't remember seeing the El camino in them.
Edit; I just went back to your photos and did not see the El Camino, but that mustang could have potiential, depending on what the passenger side looks like, if you can get some more photos of it, that would be great.

im still working on it, i found out that time turns really slow up here, when they say something is going to happen, it is always late.
When i come accross the axle i will cut it off and put it aside for you, i don't know when the crusher is going to be up there for sure, but parts that i can take off and put in the bed of my truck i will save for sure.
Now for the person wanting the full car, it would be really hard to get you the entire car, unless you were here waiting with some way to tow it out, then im sure you could get it, but there isn't really any way that i am going to be able to take it off to the side, they want all these cars to get rid of, so if i started throwing cars to the side and someone didn't come pick them up, it could cause some trouble for me.
But i will grab off as much as i can, and i will help out people if they wanna come get it, i still don't know what is going to be up there for sure, but whatever i can grab i will.
(I was the one thinking of a full car)
Yeah i can see where trying to salvage a full car would be a lot of hassle and self defeating for you. Just a shame to see a possible restore or hot rod project get crushed. I thought if there was a possiblity then it wouldn't hurt to ask,
But you definitely need to think about job security also so don't do anything that will jeopordize that. Just shed a tear for me when you see that mustang, El Camino or any other "ripe" project hit the crusher.LOL
