This is probably a total noob question (don't know). I rebuilt my carb, replaced all tune up stuff (wires, cap, rotor, plugs) and am getting a surge from about 1500-3000 rpm. Kinda like its not firing on all four. Made sure wires were separated. Checked all vacuum hoses. Checked for leaks with soapy water. But after 3000 rpm it runs smooth and really sings. Maybe needs OEM parts? Any advice out there. Much appreciated.

you cant check for vacuum hose leaks with soapy water, do you have a small propane torch?? dont light the torch just open the valve and put it close to the hoses, if there's a leak the engine will speed up

Ditto on the vacuum leak check. Especially around the base of the carb since you've had it off to rebuild it recently.
