Dont know if its just me anymore but im starting to think it is....Trucks have so much interior noise that its hard to drive down the highway and have a convo with the person next to you. The normal fix is yell or turn up the music....Im making an attempt to fix this in the new cab and wanted to see what you guys have done to make the truck quieter inside if anything. If you dont care im interested to know.

I guess what started this was talking to my buddy nick who picked up a $300 4runner thats not in abd shape. Dirty yes condition is better then most. Anyways he was talking about gutting the interior (PO was a slob) so i said it wouldnt be a bad idea. He washed the seats and almost threw the carpet away saying screw it but Ryan cleaned it up really nice so right now hes debating on putting it in.... To me even tho the truck is offroaded and gets dirty it should be quiet in side for the times your on the road. His is going to be a daily and hes lifting it and putting wheels/tires on it so it will get loud anyways. I dont think that even tho he might see a trail once a week max its enough to yank the carpet and make the thing a rattle box.

Troy i know you have some tricks...please share Tips, Tricks opinion.

My plan, Change and add if you would do something different.
-edead spray inside the cab and under it. total coverage inside and everything but the firewall outside(they say not to use it in the bay)
-edead mat over it again total coverage inside
-A pillers will get a filling of great stuff(not the crazy stuff the will split the body)
-The floor will see a layer of this mat we used when doing a sound booth for the church. It is pretty thick but not bad enough you will notice. The carpet has a backing on it too.
- Doors both spray and mat.
-I might tint the truck a tiny bit. I was told by a guy i know thats close with secondskin audio and they talked about it adding mass to the windows and reducing some noise.
- New door and window seals and vapor sheets.

The edead stuff is cheap right now and will cost me about 1/4 of the price as dynamat and be just as good. I tried the second skin stuff and loved it but its more money and weighs more.
The goal for me as quiet as possible inside....like lexus quiet

If its not enough i will have plan b=Loud stereo.

I wouldn't waste too much money on the sound deadening products - they help, but more doesn't always help more IMHO. They also add A LOT of weight.

Biggest thing is make sure your weatherstripping is good. If you have the cab off, I would definitely spray the bottom with rubberized undercoating or Herculiner or something like that, then just do the mat on the inside. Make sure you cover any holes really well. You will find that the camper shell helps A LOT.

The expanding foam idea works REALLY well. Note that you don't need to fill the entire cavity top to bottom - just enough to brace the inner and outer panels together.

The spray on e dead is more for the texture on the bottom. It will give a nice uniform look to the underside and it will with luck help to keep the dirt from building up in the cracks and moisture to stay out so i dont wind up with a rusty cab. Im thinking it will be a nice thing in the wheel wells too.

The seals will all be new. I found 2 places for them and i guess toyota still offers the window seals. Mine are dry and starting to crack on the new doors.
The roof needs something. On my old cab i added a square foot to the roof and each door and man did it help. This time i want it a bit quieter because i dont know what happened to my hearing but in a car all i hear is roadnoise. The highlander is sooooo loud inside at highway speeds its driving me nuts. the truck will be my daily for a while and the tires i know will be annoying but im holding off for a while to get new ones just because i just got this set and need to by wheels. Its the cheap way out but it will work out in the end.

The foam is only going to be in the A piller just because theres no other area to put it. The B piller has a vent in it so you can shut the door. The main thing im trying to do is make the truck feel nicer inside. Im giving up my BMW so im making this thing feel a bit more like a new truck. Im adding a few things like the power/heated leather, The auto dimming mirror, homelink, the stereo will be nicer now and more reasonable then the 12's i had in there so it will also give me more room. The topper will have a sleeping shelf in it with the storage all tucked under it in a false floor so that will help cut down on noise for the cab. Air leaks will be gone because im going to a thicker vapor shield on the doors that wont have holes in them. I think it will be as quiet as i can make it with out adding a Ton of weight to the truck.

Edead is on sale right now. A gallon of spray on is $50 and the mat is $1 a sq ft.
