been posting miscellaneus stuff during my very slow build but thought I would post some pictures here.
Truck I started out with in a 1981 Toyota Trekker. Basically a prototype for the 4Runner. Winnebago got together with Toyota and made 1200 of these conversion from '81 to '83. Nice having a 1st Gen that seats 4.
truck has a 22R with a 5 Speed, SR-5.
Here it is when I bought it in the spring of 2007:

Seats were in OK shape, but headliner and the rest of interior pretty much toast:

I should have bought a set of 37's instead of the 33's:

a set of wheel spacers helps stability a bit:

Been spending the last several months accumulating parts, the usual dual cases, etc...

My first Budbuilt Crossmember turned out to have been listed wrong on ebay (only out $31 plus shipping) so ended up ordering the correct one:

Marlin Crawler provided the rear bumper, great piece of armor:
Turned out I had to trim about 5" off the lower quarter panel to clear the bumper...Ryobi's 18V cordless saws/drills that all use the same batteries come in handy

Was finally able to get over to a friend's shop to get some work done on the truck..
Todd had his 65 Chevy on the lift..would have made the job a little easy.

everything removed:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/spring%20install/IMG_0071.jpg
the spring mounts were persistant:

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/spring%20install/IMG_0083.jpg
SPring mount and winch bracket on (need to remove the radiator though to be some beads on the back of the bracket/crossmember) on:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/spring%20install/IMG_0084.jpg
Old stuff that was removed...probably lost 20 pounds and 27 years of road dirt too:

Before High steer:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/front-before.jpg
With High steer, everything up above the axle, nice and protected. The 94 IFS box sure has a lot more positive feel to it...

Old front end flex:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/014.jpg
New (could have gone up a bit farther but want to get bump stops in there just in case)...Yeah I know I need to flip the driver's side front spring bolt around:bang:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/031.jpg
poser ramp:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/033.jpg
It is a slow build and learning a bit as I go...
Pulled up the Carpet (all 3 layers of it:mad: )
Passenger side looked great:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/passsidefrontfloor.jpg
Wasn't so thrilled with what I found on the driver's side:

RevengeRunner (Derek of Revenge Fab) fixed the floor for me:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/008-3.jpg
tight fit welding in there by the fiberglass tub
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/009-1.jpg
While he had it down at his shop to fix the floor he went ahead and whipped up some more armor for me:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/003-6.jpg
It doesn't stick out too much like some I have seen:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/004-6.jpg
Modified the rear Marlin bumper to a swing out:banger:

this thing should help out for a little faster airing up, especially when I finally get some real tires:

Found the jackstands:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/0033.jpg
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/0042.jpg
pulled these things out:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/0073.jpg
Some people thing they save sometime by letting the axles rest on these but from past experience I know that I end up doing a seal a few months later so so forget that. I will deal with having to bleed the brakes:booty: :
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/0103.jpg
axles shafts and differential all seem to be in great shape:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/0092.jpg
It sucks, I counted the teeth on the ring gear. My thirds are the stock 3.90's that came with the '81. No money for 5.29's at this time, hopefully next spring...
but this should be in tomorrow:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/aussie.jpg
Finally got a 3/16" punch so I could drop the diff shaft and get out the spider gears:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0522.jpg
Rear install the thrust washers, evidently some people forget them and the locker won't work right:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0526.jpg
Just like Zuk has found on his aussie installs I had to take some material off the housing to get the parts to drop in:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0524.jpg
Checked the clearance between the shaft, I got 0.007", spec says 0.006-.016:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0527.jpg
Got all the couplers in after doing the little clearance job mentioned about, a few minutes with a file was all it took:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0528.jpg
Next step was to line up the couplers and insert the 4 pins, make sure to install the spring nipple up, it helps to retain the spring:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0529.jpg
Springs installed, take your time with this, those little buggers can fly, using a couple of small screwdrivers did the trick:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0530.jpg
all 4 springs installed:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0531.jpg
Need to check the gap between the couplers after it is all together, I had 0.147", for the aussie warranty you need 0.145"-0.178" on the center gap:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0532.jpg
Main shaft and retaining pin back in:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0533.jpg
aussie locker in the carrier:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0534.jpg
I went to put the ring gear back on and it did not want to drop down all the way so I did something my wife will hate me for:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/locker%20install/IMG_0535.jpg
After 15-20 minutes at 225* the ring gear dropped right down:hillbill:

I have been trying different back seat combinations in hope of finding something that would be good for the kids, have adjustable headrests and best thing would be split rear seats...I
took a look inside a Mitsubishi Montero, looked like a couple of people ejected themselves through the windshield..anyway found that that it was a '94 with jumpseats...trusty tapemeasure showed they were about 18.5" wide, a few minutes later they were in the wheel barrow on the way to the cash register with a pair of these:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0014.jpg
they had kind of a wing for the bracket that attached inside the montero, would have been cool to adapt that but it was not in the cards with the Trekker bed--
started to get all the brackets and crap off:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0034.jpg
U bolts from the rear u bolt flip kit worked great for keeping the fabric out of the way of the sawzall:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0042.jpg
after a few minutes of playing with tools of destructions I had this pile of junk:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0073.jpg
reinstalled the seat fabric around the bracket area that was cut off, just kind of folded it under and tightend it with the split rings (i will get it a little tighter when I make the brackets):
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0053.jpg
Did a test fit:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0092.jpg
fits pretty good, I need to make some brackets that will hold the seat up about 1.5" or so...
Meets the objective of having split seats, the kids are comfortable--these montero seats even recline about 30 Degrees or so...http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o159/ocdropzone/misc%20stuff/interior%20stuff/0105.jpg
they are about 3-4" above the floor of the bed when folded down, I am pretty happy with that...it was a good hour playing with tools:hillbill: ..
