View Full Version : What type of fluids to use?

I know I'm well over due, and I need to change the oil in my manual transmission/transfer case and differentals. I was wondering what type, weight and brand is best for each. I run Mobil 1 in the engine and would consider sticking with one brand if they make a good product for each application.

The tranny, t-case, and diffs all use the same stuff; GL (gear lubricant) 5. 75w-90 and 80w-90 are GL-5 rated oils.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic for everything in my truck.

I used the mobil 1 synthetic kind, 75w-30 I think. Changed it at 30k miles, the stuff I drained out looked totally clear and wasn't runny yet. I heard somewhere that if you have never changed your tranny fluids, say you have 90k miles on your truck that is can actually where down your truck more to drain the old black oil and swap it out with new clean stuff. Don't take my word for this though, I am sure someone who knows butt loads more than me will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

I run Amsoil 75W-90 in all of them.
