The FL4WDA has found a tent friendly place to camp!! So the annual MLK Weekend campout is on again. Specifics are below. Post up and I'll check back if you plan to attend in order to determine if we're going to have a catered dinner. I'll keep checking back.

It's going to be at Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville, Florida. We had a little camp-out there recently and rode the west side of Richloam WMA. I'll have more details in this post soon.
For now :
$32 for 2 nights camping with water/elec
Just show up and pay
Dump station on premises
Bath and Shower at campground
10-15 minutes to trail riding
Unsure on raffle for now
Meeting on Saturday morning at 9:30am
Members and Non-members are invited, it's just an organized camp out with impromptu trail rides day and night. Unless I have a good head count I do not plan on having a catered meal however I can set that up if I have enough committed to showing up.
Only in a .....

The 10-15 minutes to trails. What trails. Citrus? Croom? Have to watch out in Citrus. Mud on rig can get you tickets ( I know  ). Richloam is farther then 10-15 minutes from Brooksville. "HATE HATE HATE Richloam" That place can cost you money.:banghead:

Depends on exactly where in Brooksville you are coming from. If you go into the woods right off of 50 you can be there pretty fast. We always went around on the far side to enter and ride. I was out there right before hunting season and it wasn't as wet as the last time all of us went out there. With the lack of rain we have had, it's probably pretty dry out there now.

Richloam is the east side of 301. None of Richloan is west of 301 which Brooksville is. Closet to Richloam is Ridge Manor. In between Ridge manor and Brooksville is Hill n Dale. Still not 10 minutes from Brooksville. Mckinney sink road or Richloam clay sink road are about 10 minutes from my grandparents house in Ridge manor as is going in through Lacoochee. Was just seeing what trails they were going to that were 10-15 minutes away. And yeah I was out hunting in Richloam and yes it's pretty dry but we did find a few nice deep holes. DID not play in them. I remember a $1800 lesson from there :D

Just did a search of the youth ranch. Seems to have a brooksville add but is located in pasco. It's close to 75 around Trilby. So from there to the lacoochee intrence you could make it in 15 minutes or so. But it's not in Brooksville or even close to there.

So who's in and who knows the Richloam area? I'm camping, I think I'll drive up Saturday morning. I've never been to Richloam, so it would be nice if we can get some experienced people and have at least one organized TTORA trail ride.

i'm in, but I dont know the richloam area. If its first come first served, is there a way to set up in a group?
coryc85
12-08-2008, 12:34 PM
Freaky - since there appears to be no reservations, we'll just have to wing it and drive around looking for the other TTORA members. Once this gets closer, maybe we can get a list of people going on which day and then we can try to coordinate with each other.

I will be up there saturday just not sure what time yet, depends on if I can get out of work but it should be around noon at the latest. I will probably have one other truck along with me.
I know my way around richloam pretty good, and around citrus even better if we take a ride over there also. It's maybe 30-45 minutes away from richloam.
Harry, we use to be members of FL4WDA. I know some of us gave money for Neil to get us joined up, but I am pretty sure that was well over a year ago so I am sure it has expired. Maybe I can get ahold of someone before then and see if we can get sighned up again while we are there.

I will probably take time off work and head up there Fri night. Have to make a few things set before I know for sure, but I have the vaca time. I don't want to be a duech and hold 5 spaces...but If I get up there maybe I'll park in one space and set up a tent in the other. that combined with maybe the gf's car and we can be good. I did that with the "explitive deleted" club a few years ago at Ocala.

I plan on going to the meeting on Saturday morning. And see what's going on during the day. Then there is a raffle that evening.
Is there a schedule for this gathering ?
We'll have to find out about becoming members again. And what the benifits are.

You get a cool sticker for your truck.lol I don't think they really have anything planned yet so we will have to wait and see.
I think if anyone is interested in running over to citrus, we should go there first before we get our trucks all muddy in richloam.

I don't see any reason you can't come. The more the better.
Ben, I like the Citrus thing better myself. I've seen too many pricey repairs from Richloam. Myself, I haven't had any leaky axle seals since the last time there.
I need to get a flttora banner for my windshield too.

You don't have to be a member of the FL4WDA to go, and yes, you are more than welcome to join us. If you want to join when you are there you can. I think it only $5-10 for a year, but that is up to you. Most of us here joined a few years back, but our membership has since expired.
Harry, if it's ok with everyone else from this bunch, we can do citrus saturday and be back in time for the raffle around 7(for those buying tickets), and do some playing at richloam on sunday.

Yea, they have a website. It's fl4wda.com. I checked it out and it looks like it is still only $5 for a year membership. I asked and they will have the forms at the campout for anyone who wants to join. Also it looks like they will be having a raffle saturday night around 7pm. I am not sure how much tickets will be though.

Well fawkers, this is about as organized as anything has been around here for the last year or so. Those of you who have been around a while know what I am talking about. Seeing as how we are leaderless at the moment I say we try and make the campout( I will be there saturday and sunday), wheel citrus on saturday, and do richloam on sunday. And maybe a night run somewhere in between, if we can get in and out of the gates after dark.
Maybe with gas being cheaper now we can start going and doing things again, and this place will not look like so much of a ghost town anymore.

That sounds like a great idea. We'll have to see what their schedule is to fit as much in as possible.
Is this a multi-club event from all of Florida ?

Ben, your plan sounds great (maybe you should be interim leader :D ). I will be there Saturday and Sunday for sure, camping out Sat night. I'm not sure if I'm going to stay Sunday night yet or not. Before this, I normally made the drive to ONF a couple times a year (nearly a 6 hour drive), so I am very excited about a 3 hour drive. Maybe we can revive this board a little bit after all!

Yea, I don't think any of us ever got our stickers.lol If you don't want to go to richloam, try for saturday and we will go to citrus. That will work out for the best anyway. If we do richloam first our trucks will be covered in mud, and that doesn't work to well in citrus.
Harry, it is a multi club event but for the most part each group kind of goes off and does there own thing. On the FL4WDA website it is planning on having the meeting saturday morning around 9:30 and then the raffle will be that afternoon around 7.

I haven't been to one of these get togethers before.
Is this family friendly ? Anyone else bringing family ?
I'd like to bring my 12 year old son. But I don't want him to go back to his mother (my "X") and tell her storys.
ben76
12-12-2008, 05:43 PM
I don't see why bringing the kid would be a problem. With FL4WDA putting this on and being that they are the ones fighting to keep places open to wheel they would want it to be family friendly. I am sure with this many people showing up you will have a few idiots but that is to be expected. And Like I said we probably will be off on our own wheeling for the most part.

So what you're saying is that I can't walk around naked, drunk, and hand out porn while I tell racist jokes? JEEEZ...
I've been to a few group stuff like the FL4wd ones, and while I don't have any kids, I know ppl who bring their own. I would imagine as long as they aren't crying and can hold their own camping/wheeling - then no one has anything to say :)

YIPPEEEEE!!!! A trail ride!!! I still haven't fixed my CV axle on my 4runner from the last time we were all at Boston... over a year ago now? I've been to plenty of the FL4WDA events over the years and they are family friendly. You will have a group here and there that I wouldn't bring the kids around after 9pm... but other than that it's a great meet and greet. I'm already going to the Rolex 24 hour race in Daytona the weekend after... But I'll try and get Saturday off to come down and play since I haven't been out in a long while. I'm still cranking away on the FJ60 slowly... maybe it will be ready for a late spring run?

I think in the meeting they just talk about what's going on with getting new trails open and stuff like that. It's not required to attend the meeting but you can if you want.
We went out and played at richloam the other night and didn't find much water. A few of the regular mudholes are still there but no deep standing water. We where out there last friday night for the meteor shower and it was pretty cool.
TacomaHarry
01-06-2009, 06:25 PM
Meteor shower would be awesome to see from out there.
Good news about the deep water thing too. We haven't had much rain lately.
I thought it would be interesting to go to the meeting.
We as a club could get involved to help keep trails open or what ever and maybe get the club going again. If there is enough interested.
That is what FL4WDA does right ? From the little information I've found that's the impression I got.

Harry, thanks for posting those pics...It woulda taken me forever.
Did anyone hear from Justin as to why his truck was over-heating?

Also, How's Rob's Tundra ?
Did he take it back to lokey and get it fixed ?
Sorry we didn't get any pic of Cory and Dustin 4Runner in action.
They'll just have to come back and do it again. :D

We went and got one of those digital temp guns and checked it and it was just getting a false reading. He went and got a new guage for it, but we havn't had a chance to put it in yet.

I figured it was a bad sensor. It's easy to replace as I had one go bad on my 3.0 '94 too. It's on the back of the head by the firewall, and you may have to remove the manifold to get to it.
Rob picked up the lost nut from Toyota yesterday, put it in, tested it out, and said it's perfect now. The angles are good (<15 degrees), so he should be OK. He's going to go ahead and replace the rear drive-shaft also as a pre-caution later this week. I'll get w/ him here soon and we'll put it in 4L, let it climb something, and I'll get under it to make sure it's not extending too much. I'll get w/ him before the next ride and check the whole rig out w/ him to make sure we don't have any more problems w/ his truck.
His truck is pretty solid, but after seeing the issues his has, there is no way I'm putting a 6" lift to mine. Once you put that thing on, ur comitted for life w/ all the issues it brings up.
