I broke my first CV tonight :p

Playing in a pretty deep ditch/ravine out east of brighton, trying to get traction to climb out of it, it was crank the wheel all the way and try to get it to grab, or lay my truck over into the dirt on the passenger side.... needless to say im happy with my choice.

Just thought id share that it finally happened, after a season of absolute abuse, in sub zero weather, caked in snow/ice haha.

Thank god for manual hubs, so i didnt have to pull that shit apart in the freezing weather!

congrats!! :D
how are you liking that lockrite on ice and snow?

Dont really use 4wd, hasnt been bad enough.

But i dicked around with it a little, its great until it comes time to turn, saved my ass from dumbass that pulled out in front of me. Just dumped it in first and dropped the clutch (with the front and rear locked) and the truck came to stop DAMN fast with me barely touching the brakes. I'm sure doing this is hard on everything (steering, clutch, tranny, t-case, cv's, rear diff, EVERYTHING), but it was better than an accident.

Obviously it helps get moving too, but the roads havent really even been bad enough to justify 4wd.

Just 2wd with the (rear) locker on around town, and just 2wd without the locker on main roads :p

yeah, i put it in 4wd on ice today and the locker wasn't as bad as i had expected.

cant turn for shit once i hit pavement though!

It was bound to happen. I havent really been using 4wd that much either yet

I was playing around in 2WD locked yesterday on the way to work ... kinda hard to predict when you'll get massive oversteer and a beautiful sideways drift and when you'll get massive understeer though...

Ha! thanks Opie, but really i wanted to see Nate flop that truck of his, it's so pretty and I want to see how upset he gets over the body damage.

Wish he flopped it? no, I don't wish it, but I'm anxious to hear about when it does happen. If that makes me a bastard.. I'm ok with that I guess :D

Ahh you old bastards, i still think you're just jealous :p

Sean, its the outer joint i believe, the boot is all twisted and mangled, i havent really dicked with it since its so cold. I'll know for sure when i tear it apart on sunday...

But i have A LOT of driving to do between now and then

Gotta drive roughly 400 miles tonight (to ft carson and back), then keystone and to the x-mas party tomorrow.... Ehh, oh well

If it makes you guys feel any better, i did dig the passenger bedside into the frozen dirt/ground, along with the passenger mirror. No damage to the bed, since it was right where i hit it at holy cross, but it cracked the tail light into 3-4 pieces lol

I dont really think i cursed myself, i KNEW doing what i was doing would most likely break the cv, but it was the better choice between the two options.

Oh, no doubt about it, I am jealous... wish I had your truck can't wait to have something comparable.

I just think it's hilarious that you wheel the way you do and claim to not worry about it much, but the disappointment in your voice when you point out the 'flaws' in your bed bob tells me otherwise.

you already know i am jealous over everthing on your truck but the bed/interior space.

Its still just hangin out in my hub assembly, broken.

I should really get off my lazy ass and fix it.

Maybe i'll do that tomorrow since i have the day off... hmmmm

Would probably be a good idea.

crank the wheel all the way and try to get it to grab,Outer is what I figured. That sucks...but at least you can probably just cut the old joint off without tearing up the splines on the shaft, and pick up a new outer joint.

the joint is fine, sean, a little twisted and mangled, but not physically broken

The output shaft sheered at the back of the hub. :p
