Ok I bought the 2001 DC with a Supercharger and of course it has a K&N FIPK and what do you know the CEL is coming on, so any help??? I know someone can help me with this and I can help you with whatever or compensate you financially. I would appreciate any help. I will pull the codes so that I ( WE;) ) know where to start. Its had at least one O2 sensor replaced at the place where I bought it and the cat replaced. I'm sure they don't understand what's going on but I will get them to replace whatever else since it can't pass emissions at this time. I understand it's the Holidays so Happy Holidays to all. Thanks again to all for your help in advance.

Might just need to clean the MAF or tighten up the gas cap ... won't know til you check the code(s)

Get an OEM filter back on if you can. The oil filters don't make MAF happy. Once you have a clean filter/MAF, clear the codes with a hard reset (disconnect the battery for 3+ min) and see if it's happy. If not, the codes will come back...

We'll take care of it during a Rescue 1 unapproved training day. Just don't tell Dave.

Try to get to a checkers and pull the codes. If your not driving it much, wait till next week and bring it by Burt and we can check the codes. I would check the codes first before clearing them.
Over oiled K&N filters are very commom. Cleaning the MAF is a easy 5 minute job. I would switch to a dry AEM filter. It is washable and has the same or better flow then the K&N. If it is the P0171 fuel system too lean (the dirty MAF code) it is running rich and safe to drive for a little while.

Hey I just want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. I will pull codes and keep everyone in the loop since I'm sure someone has run into this before. Merry X-mas all.

Ok, the code came up P0420 EGR FLOW EXCESSIVE DETECTED.
Bad EGR valve:confused:
Didnt think they went out that often.

I did find that the exhaust had 1 bolt completely missing, leaking I'm sure, and another joint in the exhaust that was so loose that I'm wondering if that was it. I will clear the code and wait and see?

I'm with ike - sounds like your EGR valve is stuck open ... might be time for a call to Seafoam man? Or some other way of cleaning/lubing it?
Exhaust leaks may be causing it, but i dont know how the ecu would detect it.

A p0402 is for a cataylist efficency below threshold (your cats are degraded and need replacement). It is possible you have a 2 cat system and they only replaced one, or used substandard parts. You can get toyota cats though that is expensive. I have had luck with the Magna flow brand cats not setting codes.
I would not think your truck has EGR, that was only a Cali emissions vehicle.
Either way, is the code number you gave the correct one? Or the wording correct?
You can pass emissions in Colorado with the Check Engine light on. If your truck is running clean enough that is the next question, a light no longer fails you. example, you have a p07xx code, while the Check engine light is on the code is telling you about a transmission issue.
So did it fail the Air Care test yet? Do you have the readings?

Ok thanks for the help, you're right they only replaced the rear cat and of course it looks like the cheapest one they could get. So far it's holding after some miles. I will take it in tomorrow and find out if it holds and passes. Lets hope so. Thanks everyone. Hope to catch up with you all sometime and try it out. Thanks
I would not think your truck has EGR, that was only a Cali emissions vehicle.I have a Fed emissions/EGR Tacoma....97 V6. Just one of those funny things.....like that low fuel light that gets asked about.

Why do they let these damn models in our state? Makes everything confusing. I searched around and supposedly if it says anything about California on the left front door area where all the info is located then I guess it's supposed to be a Cali model. Does this sound correct? If that's the case then mine is, so that would explain the strange code. So far after tightening up the exhaust it's been OK. Thank you everyone. I will keep you guys updated.
Dont know for sure. I know that they were made in cali though.

Not sure how you tell if it's a cali model or not, short of taking the VIN in to a dealer and having them look it up. For some reason, I want to say that it was only the cali models that had dual cats.. but I could be waaay wrong about that.
I bought my taco in cali and it is a pain when it comes time to do the O2 sensors... one of them is not an o2 sensor, but an A/F sensor, looks the same, but it isn't and it costs more.

They sell Cali models all over the country. Counld get one anywhere ... just depends on how demand is.

Alright tightened up the leak(s) and reset all good then the magical code came up for the cats and sure as shit it did not pass emissions. Took it back and "they" are having another cat put on. I get to be there for this one and will demand a better cat up front and that they maintain someway to get the exhaust off without having to cut it.. So again I thank everyone and Happy New Year to all
Hope everthing works out, but it sounds like it may be a struggle.

Ok so I asked for a decent front cat and got it. Exhaust shop reset light sent me to get emission and it looked good for awhile and then, you guessed it, 420 (not that one:D) Well they are ordering a better second cat because they admitted they threw a cheaper version on the back hoping it would work. Thankfully it was a friend that sold this to me via his dealership so he worked out a better second cat. I appreciate everyones help and we shall soon see how everything else goes.

So, what's the best way to clean a MAF sensor if it gets coated?
Why is that AEM can produce a high-flow air filter, similar to K&N, but theirs does not need to be oil coated?

Some use brake cleaner, I've used electricial contact cleaner, there is also a special MAF cleaner. Don't touch the wire with anything but the spray-on cleaner, no Q-tips.
The new Amsoil air filter is nano tech: http://www.allfilters.net/
