removed bedline, bare metal in bed...what to do?

i just took the bedliner out of my truck, in prep for installing a tool box and getting a spray in. due to the liner rubbing for 6yrs, quite a few areas of bare metal have been exposed. will washing, then throwing a layer of wax over the areas, help at all? what can i do to prevent the onset of rust?

i don't want to put the liner back in. i'm actually hoping to sell it to someone.

Wax isn't gonna protect the bare metal, you gotta have some paint on there first. If you are gonna put a spray-in bedliner soon, just hit the spots with some primer. The bedliner shop is just gonna take the paint down to the metal anyways when they do the liner, so just use the primer to prevent the rust until its installed.
